I need to go for a gfx swap soon....currently i own an MSI Geforce FX5200 128mb ddr....my budget can stretch max upto 7k...earlier my choice tilted towards the 5700LE...but after a lot of consideration i've decided to opt for the ATI 9550/9600 based card...ASus wud be my favoured brand...

Btw,i'm a casual gamer..happy playin AOE,Empire earth,fifa and GTA vicecity...dont like HL2,doom and party....

now somehow i've come to kno of the Nvidia 6200...which seems to provide better performance than the 9550....but is it a good buy? Also is it available in india?
What is the price of the Asus 9550 Gamers edition here?If somebody can quote me the price here in Pune or Bbay....
And yaar pls dont suggest me to go for 6600GT..i know..its good but i simply cant rake up the moolah for the card...i know how i'm adjusting 7k for my card...
Dad dont understand the reasons as to why i shud upgrade a perfectly fine grafik card...wel u know, how its wid dads...!! :hap5:

N lemme kno if anybody's interested in buyin my MSI FX5200...its perfectly fine..never ever overclocked..hell didnt find a reason to oc...never caused a reboot or a freeze...

Well the only 6200 available is :NV44a based 256mb XFX.Its good(9550 comparable ,just a lil higher)but it has a 64-bit bus and doesnt overclock well.
Its also passively cooled-in effect spoiling what could have been a great card.
May be in Mumbai u can get ASUS 9550GE,its quite good.
If not the XFX 5700LE is the next best choice as it overclocks a lot-almost 70-85% on the core and upto 20-30% on the memory.(only the 256mb is 128-bit though)
If would not recommend club3d or powercolor as they are very untrustworthy brands.
I say wait for a NV43 based 6200 coz unlocked and overclocked it reaches 70-80% the performance of a 6600gt!Unfortunately neither it or the vanilla 6600 agp r available here AFAIK.
PCI-E users have a ball though with a very decent 6600 128mb available for just 7.2k!
PS:XFX 6200 is still not available in many areas/cities though its available in Mumbai and a few dealers in NP,Delhi.

I wouldnt recommend any FX based cards for the simple reason, pathetic shader performance even a FX 5950 ultra will stutter if DX 9.0 mode is enabled. 6200 series at vanilla speeds are slower then 9600, dont know about OCed, if you afford a 6600 GT well and good, otherwise get a 9600 pro ( Gigabyte is arnd 7.5k ) As Undertaker said stay away from Club 3d lotsa issue here, Gigabyte hase really good HSF worth the extra price they command + 3 yrs warranty.

6200 at vanilla speeds may be slower than the 9600pro(not the plain 9600 anyway)by about 5% in some cases and much faster in others. But a NV43L based 6200 can easily be modded to a 6600 yielding 9700 pro+ performance.
The NV44a would have been good too but it only has a 64-bit bus.
The rest depend upon where u live?In bombay /south u can get gigabyte 9600 p for arnd 7.3k but in Delhi the stupid disty still quotes 8.4k!

XFX Geforce 6200 AGP8X 128MB Ram = 6.5k [3yrs. warranty]
afaik,the 6200 OC's like hell.
It can touch 6600 level in performance if OC'ed
Basically the 6600/6200 have the same core,am i right ?

The 6200 sold here is not NV43, its NV44A... 64bit memory and not the same core.

Yup.....
XFX 6200 256Mb AGP is for 6k in mumbai...nd its NV44a core...THT is 64-BIT
Undertaker here had helped a lot in identifying the card :hap2: ....

But still if ur going for a 5700le or 9550 ...the 6200 is a better option for u...

nd since he said he's not going to b playing games like doom nd hl2...i think this will be the best for u...
check out the site posted by Undertaker ....u will know.
Even the 64-bit kills both the cards...thou marginally...but once overclocked....which i did on my frnd's card for smetime( the site is actually rite)....it zoom's past those cards.....nd it has great OC'ing abilities.

Only probs for him was the temp's.......its INDIA.

so brought the card back to stock (he sayd atleast for now)

So best bet 6200 even if 64-bit...but only for the guy concernedrite now :cool2:

well , 6200 has only 4 pipelines compared to 6600 8 pipelines . this sure makes alot of difference in gaming or benchmarking ;)

over clocking a 6200 is not going to beat 6600 any way

You can unlock the 4 pipelines in most of the Nv43 cores. But then again its not guarenteed to work, and its definitely not the 9500 non pro with L shaped memory legend ;)

U r stuck with NV44a for agp in the sub-10k bracket. The cost of the HSI chips is probably hurting the margins of taiwanese firms too much to use it liberally on any thing less than 6600 non-gt.If only the NV44a had a 128-bit interface...an NV44b perhaps?
Its plain wrong to force users to have a 64-bit card in this day and age.
64-bit bus with 400mhz to 500mhz ram=3.2 to 4 gbps of bandwidth.C'mon guys(nvidia), even some 5200 cores got a better deal!
And whats with the $90 9600 pro?I bet its still more like $150-180 here.Darn country. :@
Come to think of it,even the 6600gt is overpriced(at 11k).Going for $185 currently or 8K to be precise.

CaaYoTee , for XFX 6600 CARD PCI-E it is available for rs.7500/- . it is better than the cards that you are thinking to buy ( 5700LE , 9550 , 9600 ) . it is comparable to 9700 .
note : i got the price from the latest techtree article regarding their gamer's computer configuration below 40K .

ok , going by your 5200 , obviously you have AGP version . for 6900 rupees , you can get Leadtek 6600 128MB card from the u.s ( agp version ) .
