Hi,
Recently I have started coding bit of coding and realized that my keyboard and mouse need a change. the mouse is too small, hands starts aching within 20-25minutes of usages. keyboard is 5years old & working fine but sometimes keys get stuck. So I guess I would change. thinking of getting mechanical keyboard or something else, not sure.

Need something which:
* offers good tactile feedback
* ergonomic, so I can code till long hours until my fingers bleed

Budget is about: 1-1.5k

TVS Gold is evergreen but not multimedia and cost around 1.2K, hence not in budget.

I prefer multimedia KB and frankly speaking any generic Dell/MS/Logitech will do for coding needs. Though I always felt against those slim one, I suggest you to go to some tech showroom, try your hands on some KB and than get what comes best in your budget. There is no special requirement as such in KB/Mouse for coding.

Wrist support is what I may look for but I don't think such KB will com ein 1.5 K. So you may get separate wrist support for KB from staples for 200 Rs.

i personally prefer the logitech's basic model.

the older version used to come with a little bit of palm resting and overall a larger size.

the current version is cut down minimalist version and totally kills the feeling you get on the older version.

that apart, they do have a larger size and better built one for a little higher price, around 500-600. the keys on logitech's basics models are much better than those on MS's basic models. Th MS ones tend to become stiff after a while, the smoothness you would get on logitech in entry level is unmatched at that price point.

just go to nearest market and try out the keys.

there also is a combo from gigabyte.. costs some 500 for keyboard and mouse. The keys were exceptionally soft and pleasurous to press :P

have sold the same to one of the clients about 6months ago, they are without an issue so far.

the logitech basic one that im using are without an issue for past 7yrs :P :ashamed:,infact the only component that i have not upgraded in past 7 years :P

as for a larger mouse, if you can spend a little, you may get an mx518 for 1-1.2k over TE market as prices for new have jacked up to ~1.4-1.5k. will be totally worth it. the size will be large enough and the build is good enough to let your palm just rest when yo are not using it. :)

PS: I have tried TVS Gold in college lab and i must admit that i have to put in extra efforts to strike in a key stroke compared to how much t takes over the normal keyboards.

The typing speed drastically drops but that may just be temporary and may improve to similar better levels after certain time of getting used to :P

if you consider buying it just for the sake of lifetime then that will be covered by 3-4 normal keyboards..that is how much one can buy at price of one TVS Gold :P

Get the logitech wireless combo for about 1.2k

The kbd is great and so is the mouse. At the very least give it a try. I love being able to code while sitting on the bed now :P

my suggestion is to go for MS wireless optical desktop 1000 for ~ 1.8K or less.
You will get a ergonomic keyboard & ambidextrous mouse large enough to feel good on both hands.

Get TVS GOLD.

I first got to try TVS GOLD in my college. I liked it so much that I bought one for myself.

If you haven't tried TVS GOLD, try it. It's a heaven when it comes to typing.

pros:

-Mechanical Keyboard.

-50million storkes per key:long life(Normal membrane keyboard has 10million key strokes)

-Excellent built quality

-Perfect for typists

-Excellent feeback from keys(some may don't like it)

Drawbacks:

-No hot keys

-Short cable length

-Noise. A keypress gives loud noise by any keyboard standards. Some may don't like it and find it irritating, but I love it.:P

-It has some power saving option for Num Lock, Caps Lock n Scroll lock LED's. Even if num lock is on, LED will go off after some time and you will wonder if Num lock is one or not. Weird feature:P, I don't know what the point in it.

Mouse:

As long as you are not gaming, a basic Microsoft/ Logitech mouse will do for you. Have to look at ergonomics part though.

Extra efforts?

Typing speed drops?

Na. It must be your illusion coz of the key feedback and noise you had never experienced. Actually TVS GOLD is mostly preferred by typists.
