Monitors Which LCD to play HD movies

Hi Guys,

My friend wants a 20-22" LCD for playing HD movies (x.264 i think) and building a new rig for that. He does very little gaming, say only fifa or cricket...

Budget : 12-14K (i sense its very less, don't flame me for that :bleh:)

If there is any good monitors in this range, please suggest

on a side note, does playing x.264 movies on normal WS monitors have significant less quality, if not, he can settle for a normal WS lcd

Soon, VX2260 from viewsonic may be available for this price. Its a full HD 16:9 22" TN monitor.
 
LCD monitors are classified as fullHD and non?
I thought only LCD TVs are classified that way. :ashamed:

For true full HD 1080p playback, i think the required screen size for an LCD monitor goes to 24" minimum.
 
best 22" lcd's under 15k for hd movies:

1) dell s2209w

2) benq e2200hd

3) benq m2400hd

4) viewsonic vx2260wm

all are 16:9 & have a resolution of 1920x1080 :)

Ya- it's not exactly restricted to screen size- depends on what res the screen can do. :)
1920x1080 native is what full HD implies iirc.
So a 22" with 1680x1050 ain't true 1080p.
Till sometime back, the lowest screen size that could do 1920x1080 was a 24" WS LCD iirc (1920x1200 native and 16:10)- noticed when people on TE bought their Dell E248. :)
Now there are some 22" models with 1920x1080 native res and 16:9 Aspect ratio.
Maybe they might bring out 19" WS LCDs with full HD specs soons- to cash in on you know what. :P
 
why dont u take samsung t220 HD ... comes for 18K with digital HDTV tuner-card with the capability of HD 1080p, a USB hub and 2 HDMI connections .. plus 2HDMI ports, 5.1 integrated sound card SPDIF out, DVI , analog PC,multimedia speakers of 3W x 2 ch (dolby digital), remote controller to switch between tv/pc/hdmi, a headphone jack

There are some really awful answers on this thread.

OP, your friend needs a monitor with fullHD (1080p), so either one with 1920*1080 resolution (16:9 aspect ratio) or 1920*1200 resolution (16:10 aspect ratio).

In your price range, you have two great options AFAIK: the new upcoming (read soon to be available in the market) BenQ E2200HD (Rs. 12 - 13k), or the new Dell S2209W monitor (Rs. 11 - 12k).

For true high-definition do not get 1680*1050.

But if you really see, on 22 inchers you can't tell the difference b/w 720p (1280X720) and 1080p (1920X1080 ).

So, the 16:9 monitors that Udit suggested are excellent for your requirements. IMO dont go in for a 24 incher.. Not worth the extra moolah

u cant spot the difference if the max resolution isnt beyond 720p on that panel.

n the extra moolah is not for just extra 2"
unlike most cheaper 22" panels...the costlier 24" inchers u thinkin abt are nt TN panels.

Did you even understand what I was trying to say?

I very well know that my 22" 1680X1050 screen can't show 1920X1080.. Duh..

Secondly, he's not picking up a 50" plasma. And can you mention which non-TN 24" panels is he going to get in his budget of 12-14k?

Even if he extends his budget, on the smaller screens (<37" or even 40") you can't make out the difference b/w a 720p and 1080p unless you are sitting with your face pressed against the screen

Look all said and done check out 22" and 24" monitors, and see for yourself which size would make you happy. Some people live perfectly happy lives with 17" monitors, and some even crib with 27".
