Hi,
I'll be getting a PSP soon, and i want to buy an original Memory Stick PRO Duo. Now there are 2 manufacturers for it, one being sony and the other being sandisk.

On seeing reviews, Sandisk is recommended over sony, but the problem is i really donno how to differentiate b/w the fake and real one *BEFORE* buying(I know we can check the magic gate function in the psp, but then it can be checked only after buying).
Also, i've heard that sandisk comes with a micro card with a ms pro duo adapter, now how can i differntiate that?

I'll be buying it in b'lore, so anybody can guide me?

Regards

well, as long as you are buying from a reputed store and he is giving you a proper bill with VAT no, you will be safe.(and yes a sealed pack box).

i would recommend getting a sandisk microsd card and getting a microsd to pro duo adapter (this is not made by sandisk). you can source the adapter online from dealextreme.com(recommended) or ebay.com/ebay.in.

If you want to save some money, then get the Photofast CR 5400 Dual slot adapter along with a couple of Micro SDHC cards.

eBay India: PhotoFast MicroSD to Memory stick Pro Duo adapter (item 270456330025 end time 21-Sep-2009 16:41:43 IST)

For example a 16GB Sony MPSD will set you back by 5k. A CR 5400 with 2 x 8GB MicroSDHC cards will cost only half the price. I am using this combo for 16GB storage on my PSP.

This adapter will work with a single card too. Say you get an 8GB Micro SD along with the adapter now, you can later add another 8GB/16GB card to increase your storage.

Note: Make sure you get an original Photofast adapter and original Micro SD cards.

As above mentioned members pointed out, that adapter+micro cards seem to be more economical option these days.
Only thing which really seems interesting is that you can expand your memory later on.
Similar setup with mspd will shoot drastically.
Make sure u purchase original stuff only.

One thing, if u can manage, just try to catch hold of sch a combo and try out whatever u intend to play on ur psp viz Homebrew stuff, movies music etc to be sure abt any lag during playtime.

Lastly, magic gate is there only for encryption purposes and is not a benchmark to validate authenticity. Purchasing from a decent shop will ensure a genuine purchase. :)

The PSP Gods have spoken! :)

@OT

look for the following things when buying MSPD -

~ if price of an 8GB and a 4GB MSPD are in the range of 1000-1200 and 500-600 respectively, they are mostly fake ones. Original Sandisk 8GB/4GB will cost around 1700/700-800 respectively. Forget Sony, its not worth it at those prices.

~ if buying the CR-5400 adapter, then make sure you buy an original one. There numerous fake copies available.

~ The adapter + microSD route may turn out to be a lot cheaper than buying MSPDs, So that is a good option.

@Lord Nemesis

How do i figure out an original Photofast adapter and an original Micro SD card. I guess the card can be easy to recognize, but about the adapter?
