Ok, My sisters birthday this month and she has asked for an MP3 Player for her birthday. :)

Main requirements are

1. Good quality Audio(MP3) playback
2. Compact and Light Weight
3. Very Long battery life
4. Reliability.

Budget max is around 12k. I know most would suggest an iPod, but I did not like the audio quality on the iPod 30GB that I tested. But I wouldn't mind getting an iPod if thats the only option. In the time being I would like to know about the other options that I can go for. I wouldn't mind buying a player with warranty in India or even from US (through KMD), the key point being that it should be reliable enough or at least repairable in India.

Best is get an Ipod 8gb nano....Looks brilliant feels brilliant .....Get it with an EP630

Since you are buying for a girl, the player's name and show-off factor is most important. Stick with iPod Nano.

I didnt like the audio quality of the iPods and even my sister wasnt impressed by it either

I thought she may prefer it for the flaunt value, but she clearly told me that she doesnt want a Nano, she wants something with better audio quality and value for money.

so u have compared ipod's audio quality with some other pmps ?

Yeah, I have tried various iPod flavors (Nano, Classic and Shuffle) and they came up lacking in sound quality when compared to some other players I have encountered (even some cheapo Chinese made flash players). In fact I felt that my Sony P910i sounded much better than most of those players.

I am no audiophile/audio buff myself and do not listen nor interested in any kind of music/songs, but I am a gamer and have good enough ears to know good from poor audio quality :P

I did not get to listen to a COWON D2, but I had it from several sources that once the EQ is tuned they sound better than most players.

D2 is amazing... I have one.. and the wife has one. We have the 4gb w/4gb HC SD Memory. Movies look great and the sound is hands down the best I have heard. Get a screen protector here or here these are fantastic and well worth the $'s

The movie playback is really good, and you can use the Cowon software jetAudio to resize and compress, it does a really good and relatively fast job.

+1 for Cowon, I am using it from about 3 months, no issues at all...Awesome sound, great video quality and don't forget the Battery back up of 52 hrs..
