Hi

I am currently working on my music set up. I have completed my sub already. Now need help with 2 channel music system...
Following are the requirements.

1. Budget 10K
2. Pure music play back ( No need to play videos)
3. Minimum 100W RMS power
4. Sub Out to connect my Sub woofer
5. I will connect this to my computer so Line in/Aux Is a must

I am confused whether to go with the custom Made LM3886 amp with 2 towers in 10K or to get above? ( I Have LG DVD player that can play DIVX content)

I am currently looking at this one.. Phillips FWD185/94
Please suggest me......

well norge 1000 is good, but if u want a slightly cheaper amp have a look at the sherwood RX4109 costs around 9.5k comes with a tuner and remote, its not as powerfull as a norge 1000 but for the price vs feature and performance its good.u can pair them with speakers like cambridge audio S30 costs around 8k to 9k not sure about the current prices.
alternately look for used amps.

thanks for the replys.. But the options that you are giving me are 10K for the amp alone.. I have to spend 10K more for the speakers.....
Any Idea on how does the norge and Sherwood sounds like?

Any more suggestions?

well u can't get anything else apart from the medicore performing sony/philips and some korean junk.

again what one may feel the sound is bad for a particular brand/range etc but someone else may find them the best.audio is a very subjective topice, what one may like may notbe like by others,i suggest u audition a few and decide, who knows u might get carried away to 1lakh+ audio stuff.

^ Amen to the second paragraph.

Please take this with an open mind and no intention to put down anybody. The reason we went with our suggestions is because you had already built your sub.

If you were to start from scratch now, here is what you should do. Forget about what everyone else is saying over here about audio and what is good and what is bad. It is for you to decide what you like. Go out and audition with an open mind. You don't have to start with 10 or 20K.

Today I saw in the ebay deals there are a Philips system at Rs. 5xxx/- and an LG one at Rs 7xxx/-. This includes a DVD player with Divx, etc and even USB drive support for the LG IINM. Both are 5.1 systems, one with a 200W RMS total output and the other with 300W RMS.

If you like any of them, go for it no matter what anyone else tells you that you should like or dislike. They are your ears and it is your money. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Nobody but nobody has a right to tell you what you should like.

This is a system more suited to movies than music but you never know. If it works for you, you'll be saving a bundle.

If it doesn't, I am not sure about whether in Hyd you have the next option I am going to suggest. At Lamington road there are a number of guys who sell amplifiers and speakers to those guys who provide music for events. try some of these. You might be surprised by a stereo amp costing you less than Rs. 5000/- which may delight your ears.

There are just a few audiophiles. There are a great many others who are parading around in the emperor's new clothes. If I am not among the former group, there is no reason why I must belong to the latter.

Sorry for the bluntness. No intention to offend.

@Emil,

thank you.. For sure,I will search around and take the audition before I take it...

You're welcome. One thing i have realised is that beyond a certain point for audio "goodness" the "betterness" increases logarithmically with the expense. :)
Hope I'm making sense here. In other words, beyond a point, you need large increase in expenditure to produce small (and questionable if you can't hear them anyway) improvements in audio.

One simple advice - at that budget, buy used. I got a Musical Fidelity A1 for under 10 grand simply because I bought used. That amp used to cost an equivalent of 2000 USD in today's money terms. It works perfect and sounds brilliant.

Also don't go by wattage. It means jack. 20W of quality power is much more preferable than 200W of junk power.

You can get similar deals if you look around. You'd get speaker deals too - around 5-6k would get you used entry lvl bookshelves.

Chaos where did you get that amp? can you tell me the website name... :)

No website. There's a second hand audio dealer I know pretty well here in bangalore. Got it from him. Have purchased a Technics SL-B2 turntable as well from him since then and both have turned out to be killer deals. I sold my old Jamo floorstanders to him for a decent price too.

You may be right there about used equipment but I am a bit reluctant. In the days when I used to dabble in this kind of stuff, I have seen inherently good amplifiers that had previously been repaired by quacks.
To me a quack is a person who knows nothing of electronics, opens a piece of equipment for repair and keeps replacing components till it starts working again.
Once I have actually seen a small screw driver left inserted in a tunable ferrite cored inductor because that was the only way the previous guy could keep it working.
I would certainly consider used if I have some assurance that it was never tampered with. How do you manage that?

Emil is talking so much sense here. Even when i dont consider myself an audiophile, i hesitate to take cues from TE for audio related anything.Sorry for the OT
