Between the two - Verbatim is the better quality brand.
Taiyo yuden IMO are best, if you want the lasting quality

I am storing them in the cheap plastic cases, with a plastic sheet separating the discs. Not very effective nevertheless, almost all my 7-10 year old CD's are working its just the DVD media. Regarding writers, am using a Samsung model currently (don't remember exact stats, but it was one of the recommended ones). I now almost entirely rely on the Internet and HDD for back up of very important data...

It's recommended to save less than the max on a dvd-r can hold, i usually stop at 4.3GB even thought it can go up to 4.5GB and never overburn.

i would not recommend to store in the plastic bags thin ones . either store them in Jewel case or in the spindle. if you are using the spindle do not take it with during long travel because if they are empty then the constant friction among disks will reduce the life down.

and above all do not share the disk among friends get them along with you copy it and bring it back with you .

If you lend it then that DVD will do so many rounds that by the time you get it back there will be innumerable scratches on it making them useless.
