As the title says. Winter is coming, and I was thinking about buying some 'warm' clothes, and I was seeing some nice jackets on Flipkart, but I don't really know which fabric is warmer? It doesn't seem to me that a cotton product will be as warmer as a wool one, and what about polyester?

Hmm, that's what I was thinking! Not many 'woolen' stuffs are there, I mean I don't like the available ones.
I don't understandd what do you mean by where am I put up? Are you asking me about my location or what?

As the title says, Winter is Coming... I could only think of this...

It's better to go to a mall and try them out. I've made the mistake of getting jackets online a couple of times. I personally don't like the polyester and other synthetic blend most are made of these days, they are not soft and comforting like natural fabric and leave you chilly even though they are often quite thick.

Wool being warmest followed by polyester. But whom can you trust when it comes to readymade garments. I m myself as a manufacturer have seen big brands claim a fabric to be woolen but the percentage is what really matters with the thickness of the fabric. Wool can be in a percentage ranging from 5 to 100, and thus the cost of the fabric. Remember the wool is expensive and there are different kinds of wool. All being said, nothing protects like a leather jacket, then again where can we find original good quality leather.

none of these fabrics are warm(er)... they don't emit heat. ;)

it's the way these fabrics are woven which may or may not retain body heat.

you need clothes based on their utility and the local weather. polyester jackets feel warm as their strands are woven closer and they are suitable for travel in open/rain (bike, walk etc) . a pashmina-wool sweater will be of no use on a bike but may feel very cosy indoors. and in the same way, a multi-layered cotton jacket is very efficient in retaining heat and comfortable to wear (breathable fabric).

so, if you live on north pole, you may need several layers of woollen and polyester clothing but in kolkata a polyester/cotton jacket lined with fleece will do just fine.

Why bother with any of that, if you need to stay inhouse just put up a heater and your regular clothes.

The polyester jackets are coated to avoid air to pass through. Where as leather itself doesn't let the air pass. The cotton multiple layer will absorbs the heat from body and dispates it's, and wool will retain the body heat.

Pashmina wool in sweater will cost a bomb and is not usually available in India. Here I m talking about the genuine ones.

Yeah thanks guys. I know it's better to try and then buy, but I don't really have time to do shopping. Anyway, I was wanting something which would be sober, I have a leather jacket (a cheap 5k one!) but it does keep me warm, however imo it doesn't go with all dresses, I need something which will go with my blackberry, chinos and all the other funky dresses like jeans and all. I find it awkward to wear a leather jacket with formal dresses. Anyway it's better to buy some good sweaters, I wanted something branded, as all the sweaters I have are of local brand (some Angora or whatever), let's see...
@psyph3r : Mistakes? Like what? Size problem? Mismatch with product description or else?
