Hi,
I am in a confused state of mind  , with very few days left me to choose. I am a 4yr experienced IT professional and currently in the process of changing job. I have received two offers. Wipro Technologies and Infosys. Both based for Bangalore location. Pay and perks are more-or-less same, with some 10K difference on the annual salary. As far projects are concerned, I will get to know once I join the org.
Now of course I am looking for a long term career with some onsite opportunities. So which one do you people suggest me to go for and why?
:sos: Please help me with suggestion, so that I can make a successful choice for the long run.

Cheers,
A w e :)

I've heard family and friends complain that Wipro's HR policies tend to be pretty poor. Statements like "Please don't take leave; even if you're dying, come to work and die", on the 1st day of work aren't really encouraging to employees.

So i'd say go with Infosys as well.

+1 for Infy...but try and get some info as to what vertical/horizontal you will be joining as that is a major factor. Example - Id rather take Healthcare in Cognizant, rather than BNFS in Wipro.

@hanzy - Thanks mate, for suggesting.

@Crazy_Eddy - Thanks to you too.

@memories_dv's - Thanks for your suggestion.

@chIlD_bEaR - Thank you for the suggestion.

Well as all of you have said, its way to go to Infy. So I would evaluate their offer. But how about their promotion and benefits? Most important fact I see, my package going away in the Performance Index metrics in Infy. I find their Infy Buletin Board forwards, sometime circulating in mails in other org also.
As far as onsite is concerned, which kind of vertical/project is good to join in Bangalore? Above that, I have never been in support in my 4yrs of career, and also wouldn't like to be also.

:sos: Please throw some light on my above queries.

Cheers,

A w e :)

I guess you're joining as an analyst. The analyst -> PM role change usually happens at 5-5.5 years , and even though you may not actually get to be a PM, you do get to be a PL. No clue about the benefits though

Most important fact I see, my package going away in the Performance Index metrics in Infy.

Could you please explain ?

I dont think your pay will be reduced. worst case- a raise could be stalled by the CRR process.

I really doubt if you will be given a choice in that . you'll be assigned based on the stuff you know , and the IBU allocation will be random. I have a feeling you'll be on bench for some time before HR figures out what to do with you :P

I have never been in support in my 4yrs of career, and also wouldn't like to be also.

No BPO stuff- there is a seperate BPO wing for that , but there are quite a few production support projects .

@Greenhorn - Wow that's a cool lot of info.
# Well about the pay package which I am spekaing...its CPI and VCPI thing I am talking. Apologisez, for my wrong interpretation.
# As far IBU allocation goes. Being an experienced person, can't I have some control over it based on my domain and skillset.

Please throw some light on the same.

sorry bro u dont have control over which vertical/Horizontal they will place u into .. Maximum u can do is really emphasise on ur present skillset and DOMAIN knowledge ..

@awestriker: To add onto Greenhorn's points
If you have 4+ years of exp., you'll most probably be a PA in the C band(SEs are in the lower B band). The only adv. i can think of right now is full time net access :@ ,and perks like more earned leave i guess :s

the CPI and VCPI components are pretty neat if you ask me. and i dont know if they've given a low payout.i think they've given a good payout over the years.

As far as IBU/Domain is concerned, it 110% true that as a fresher/SE, you have no choice in selection.. but for PAs, AFAIK, like child_bear said, you emphasise your skilss/domain exp. :)

@HareshG: It might be similar, but when your career is in IT, the small changes do add up.

What mails exactly? :D

# Well about the pay package which I am spekaing...its CPI and VCPI thing I am talking. Apologisez, for my wrong interpretation.

VCPI payout is usually arnd 100% or more as mentioned ....so usually u will end up getting more rather than less. As of IPI its more to do with your project/IBU(department) performnace...usually arnd 90-110% so nt much to worry :)

# As far IBU allocation goes. Being an experienced person, can't I have some control over it based on my domain and skillset.

What is ur domain/technology? There are many verticals even in a BU (business unit) in Infy....beforing being put in a project u will have a meeting with usually the SPM/GPM of the group....so quiz him for the opportunities. Also look for a project which is a bit matured rather than an old one.

You can try to negotiate with the HR ask her about the opportunities according to your technical know-how....but still there are less chances regarding those as the IBU allocation is random......

your Onsite also you have to discuss with the managers..... and yes finally u have rewards as vince has mentioned
