Because 3.60 is out, and i don't wanna wait long enough that all PS3's on the shelve are 3.60, So I am getting a PS3 this Tuesday, and i need your help to pick my PS3 bundle.

Only requirement is that it should be under 3.55 :ashamed:

So my options are :

Sony PS3 320GB with Move Starter Pack Bundle (Black)
or
Sony PS3 320GB (Black)
or
Sony PS3 160GB (Black)
or
Sony PS3 Slim 320GB + 2 Games Bundle
I'm leaning more towards the move bundle cause i read that Indian move bundles are on 3.50.

So guys, please suggest? :)

Forget abt the 2 games bundle.

You can get both the games cheap from outside in pre owned category.

Move pack is possible for abt 2800 - 3k pre owned (need to look out for the deal though as it is scarce). Move is really good and gives you good sense of gaming with Sports Champion disk. So i would not hesitate to get the Move bundle in one go.

Depends upon the budget u got.

It should really be a toss between Move bundle 320 GB and Non Games bundle (Choose size according to your pref. 320 GB would be good.)

And Congrats in advance for the ps3 ;)

The first bundle (Move with 320GB HDD). No PS3, at least in India, has anything above 3.55 firmware in it. You're sure to get 3.50, even in the most recent move bundle. So go get your self the black beauty ASAP and enjoy console gaming bliss. ;)

Guys is that news like sure? Even if i buy from a sony showroom im bound to get a FW of under 3.55? I really don't wanna risk it, sorry for my skepticism.

That won't happen until March end as my exams are going on :(

I'm 99% sure that it's 3.50, the rest 1% is a gamble between 3.55 or 3.56. The last rumor I heard in connection to a PS3 having default firmware as 3.56 was the KZ3 bundle. You can't confirm the firmware without opening the console and hooking it up to a display. Alternatively, the manufacturing date could sometimes (not always), be a good indicator of the firmware you could possibly get on the console. You can check the date on which 3.56 and 3.60 were released and thereby estimate if the bundle would have it or not. Both the firmwares are fairly new, so there is a VERY slim chance, it would be on the Move bundle. I know it's a shot in the dark, but don't worry so much about it.

Hmm okay. I'll most probably will buy it from a Sony showroom. So wish me luck for this Tuesday, lol.

Nope. Not Sony.

look for something like Planet M. There a little haggling and forcing them to asking their senior you can avail 5% discount.

Consoles with Firmware 3.56 are only available in Japan , US and Germany no other country even have received 3.60

That's great :D Does that apply to Sony showroom consoles too? Is buying from a Sony showroom safe?

^I'd say a lesser known showroom since the chances of consoles being sold from such outlets are fairly lower since the crowd would go with Croma, Sony outlets and the likes. Heck, I saw an 80GB phat Resistance 2 bundle at the Croma outlet here recently.

I think why Spacey said so could probably because Sony outlets might possibly have the largest sales of the console since the uninformed crowd would mostly prefer to buy the console from them. So the newer stocks might have already have the latest firmware.

As for the firmware issue, refer this link - PS3â„¢ System Update History

It says 3.50 came on Sept. 21st 2010, 3.55 came on Dec 7th 2010, 3.56 on Jan 27th 2011. This is March so you will end up getting one which has v3.50 or v3.55. The chances of getting v3.56 is fairly remote. As a matter of fact, keep an eye on the month and year of import - if it is anything before Dec. 2010, you are good to go. :)

PS: Congrats in advance.

Thanks Gannu. I'll do that, now the only problem is i know of nowhere else than Sony showrooms where you can get a PS3. Kolkata is not really like Delhi or Mumbai where you have gaming shops (There are 2 that i know of, but really far away from my place).

I'm sure you'll find some stores in Chandni Chowk area.

Also, there are Planet M and Music World stores in Camac Street and Park Street.

You can use this: Retail Shops : Where to Buy : Sony India

You can order it online as well and get some discounted deals too. The Flipkart one looks really tempting and seems to be the lowest priced one. Why not order it from them?

Yep.

Sony outlets generally sell more console boxes cuz of the uber noob crowd flocking to them in hordes.

Also, a planet M will get you a 5% discount as well. Sony wont relent an inch.

But honestly enuf, even Sony showroom wouldnt be stocking the new f/w as we get the packs fairly late. Its just the case of trying to be absolutely sure. But Sony showroom would be good too.

I know. I was thinking about that myself but as it is a costly item would prefer buying it locally. But if the prices are preposterous then will buy from FlipKart.

Dude, I ordered my X360 from Prashant and he had opened it (with my consent) and bubble wrapped almost every sensitive component, before sending the console to me. The only reason I got my PS3 from Croma was for the extended warranty part, else would have ordered that online as well. Besides, the PS3's box is pretty sturdy. So unless someone handles it like a maniac, I don't think you'll need to worry about the delivery being screwed up.

Actually I am okay with <5k items being shipped, but i think you are unaware of the shipping hassles people face in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. for costly items you have to have a FORM 51 (or something) and if you don't have that and the Gov people get your hands on the item, you have to pay 50% penalty.

Like my friend bought a costly cabinet from TheITWares - One Stop for all Gizmos!TheITwares Ecommerce and got it shipped to him. The Gov people seized it and even after paying 11k to ITwares he had to pay another 5-6k just to get his cabinet from those people. So that's why i said that.

Dam! It completely slipped my mind that you reside in Calcutta. :P

Well in that case, I guess you'll have to hunt for it locally and get yourself a good deal. Good luck man. :)
