Planning to put in 2 2GB modules.

Specs:

Specifications of Corsair DDR3 2 GB Laptop RAM (CMSO2GX3M1A1333C9)

GENERAL

Memory Type: 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SO-DIMM

Memory Standard: DDR3-1333/PC3-10600

Compatible Device: Laptop

Pins: 204-pin

Burst Length: 8

Error Check: Non-ECC

Buffered/Unbuffered: Unbuffered

Model ID: CMSO2GX3M1A1333C9

MEMORY

Memory Clock: 166 MHz

Technology: DDR3 SDRAM Memory

CAS Latency: 09-09-2009

POWER

Specified Voltage: 1.5 V

And what the Apple website say is required:

Mac mini (Mid 2011) computers have two internal memory slots. These slots accept a standard PC3-10600 DDR3 204-pin SO-DIMMs (Small Outline DIMM) with the following specifications:

PC3-10600 DDR3

Unbuffered

Non-parity

204-pin module

1333 MHz

You can use RAM module sizes of 1 GB, 2 GB, or 4 GB in each slot.

DIMMs with the following features will not work with these Mac mini models:

Registers or buffers

PLLs

ECC

Parity

EDO RAM

I really need some help here as I have no clue what the second part of what Apple says 'will not work' means.

Another one from Transcend and Kingston:

Both say that they are for laptops. Would they fit the Mini? Would you guys recommend Corsair or Transcend, or Kingston?

It just means that standard RAM's ought to work as register etc are use on differant RAM types.

IMO, just buy the cheapest ones and put them in.

However, if you have cash to burn, get ones which are approved for mac.

^deepakrao, does she know? I hope she is not old enough to understand

I would suggest that you put 2x4GB DDR 1333Mhz G.Skill Modules.

But before that make sure that you apply the Mac's EFI updates for your model.

I recently upgraded my sister's MacBook Aluminium Late 2008 Model to the above mentioned brand's Memory

Dumb as I am, I didn't get it either.

Have been avoiding the latest updates on the Lion. Rumours of issues? Why should the EFI update be done *before* the RAM upgrade? Anyway, all the RAM changes already done.

EFI updates are BIOS updates for Mac.

I had to do that to get 8GB working on my MacBook. Before the update My Mac only supported 6GB RAM(2+4GB) & not 8GB

I thought you had not got the Memory sticks, hence I suggested to get the 2x4GB Sticks

Honestly, it is always best to get matched pairs, ie. 4 sticks should be 4 as a matched set from your manufacturer. Usually 2 smaller pairs do work fine, however, it is not guaranteed and honestly with RAM being so cheap, try to avoid the hassles. Selling your old RAM will get you some money, and spend the rest towards 2 x 4 GB modules

Single 4gb in the Mini.

2 X 2gb plus 2 X 1gb = 6gb non matched RAM in the iMac, and both are running fine. No page outs on either since I installed.

Like I said Mini is my dads, so not very heavy usage.
