Hello,

I have the Tp link router, model number TL-wr740n. The problem is the signals disappear when I enter my room which is approx 15 meters from the router location. Is it worth buying
TP-LINK TD-W8951ND 150Mbps Wireless N ADSL2 Modem Router as an upgrade?

Thanks in advance.

The TD-W8951ND would be more of a 'sidegrade' if not a downgrade. People have resolved signal strength issues with the WR740N by switching to third party firmware (http://www.techenclave.com/community/threads/tp-link-wr740n-v4-dd-wrt-help.138902/)

1. Find out which hardware version of the 740N you have : http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=46
2. Then get OpenWRT corresponding to that version : http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr740n#specific.install.notes

If this still doesn't work, I would say get something more reliable like an Asus RT-N10U.

I have like 4-5 walls in between  will it still work?

Since you have already made up your mind to change the router, why not try the suggestions above about custom firmware and all. Worth giving a shot before putting your money on the table for a new one.

No it will not work.

It seems you're in need of an alternative.

- Use ethernet
- Use ethernet to create another AP closer
- Use a wireless repeater
- Use powerline

With that much distance and walls in between, i guess your connection comes in at one end of the house and you want access from the other end ? If so then this is your problem. You need to move the router half way or to a central location. How about asking the ISP to move the connection closer or create a phone extension half way.

Its worth giving this some serious thought as it would potentially be a boost for FREE and you get to hold on to your present router.

How much throughput do you need ?

Why don't you put up a floor layout maybe things will be more clear then.
