Which should I go for, Wifi or wired lan?

I'm planning creating a home network with 2 computers. I'll be getting a 2mbps unlimited Airtel broadband connection.

When I was in Canada 5 years ago, I had a home network where we connected 4 computers via cable internet, but once we connected each computer the connection was essentially split.

Will the connection be split again, if I go for a wired lan, or wifi, or will the slower speed only be attritubed to when a computer is utilizing the internet? With a 2mbps connection I expect to get speeds up to 200-250k per second on torrents. If the other computer is just connected, and not using the internet woudl I still get these speeds? Or would I have to switch off that computer?

So basically, my question is, should I go for wifi or lan. I've heard, that the longer the cable is, the slower your connection becomes, is that true? I have a 2250 square foot apt, but connection won't be anything more than 50-75 feet apart, maybe less.

I'd really appreciate some advice on this.

No this wont happen. Atleast it doesn't happen to me.

Don't turn off the other computer and still you'll get the speed

Check out diff wireless routers. They come with a range which is suited for certain spaces. If all of your computers and the wireless router can sit at the same place go for a simple router. Or else wired would be the way 'coz wireless routers for big spaces cost almost double if not triple the cost of a normal router.

Nothing can beet wired LAN speed. But it would hardly matter in your case since you are trying to get internet to the 2 PCs. Wired or Wireless both will give you the required internet speed unless you are not planning to transfer huge files between the 2 computers.

For your area requirement refer to the Router specifications. Few days back I was going through few articles on wireless routers and found Lynksys WRT160N to be really good.
