My brother has a Picasa account with additional paid Google storage. Now both of us are planning to share a common photo sharing/storage account, which we will be using to upload all our personal pics for backup and sharing with only friends and family. We would like to keep our Gmail accounts independent of this, hence looking for better options.

Please suggest alternatives which include the following features:
1. Unlimited storage.
2. Ability to download pics in full resolution.
3. Sharing should be a breeze. However, the site should neither ask my friends to register before viewing nor should the pics be public.

We are ready to pay for the same. So a paid account should not be a problem. What are the options other than Flickr Pro..? Please suggest.

Re: Which site for image sharing?

Mediafire I know that people mostly think this site as sharing files only, but what they don't know is that its also provides image hosting with social networking and forum and all embing stuff support. And yeah, it provides unlimited uploads. Try it, i think it will suit your demands. :)

PS:- i'm taking about the free version.

Re: Which site for image sharing?

Any reason you are looking for options other than flickr pro? It's got everything you want and more.

^^ None. Just want to assess all possibilities before committing.

@jojo: I'm not sure of mediafire's privacy features.

@bhaskarvya: Dropbox free only offers 2GB storage, while the paid versions are just too costly.

If you are not sure why not make a free account and try it out. Anyway i think you can change the images to private in the image setting.

Ah ok. I have found flickr pro to be the best so far. There are no funny compression issues or de-saturation issues with it.

Thanks guys..! Am currently trying Shutterfly and finding it to be quite nice.

Its pros in short:
1. Unlimited storage (No fee needed)
2. Pictures are stored without compression. Pics can be uploaded from Picasa (installed in the PC) also.
3. The ability to create micro-sites (don't know of a better term to use). Basically, if I'm uploading pics of my cute little cousin, I can create a small site called cousinsname.shutterfly.com and customize the site and share its URL for others to see.
4. Sharing options are good. The uploads can be made private so that only registered users of shutterfly can view them, or can be password protected so that only people who have the password can view. Also, it gives us the option to enable certain people to contribute by uploading pics in OUR account. So for eg., in the site for my cousin, I can enable my bro and sis-in-law to have the permission to upload their pics. Convenient, isn't it..? :)

Cons: I've been using this for hardly a few hours, so can't comment on it. Probably lack of FTP option to upload pics might be a con. Will update more when I have used it for a sufficient period of time.

^ Eh, what about this point #3?

:P directly contradictory to what you wanted.

There are many sites like shutterfly. example : Kinzin, Snapfish, etc

Most probably the third point was what prevented people from posting any good answers here i suppose. Anyway, since you already found a site you like, all the best. :)

^^ That was just one option. The other option was protecting with a password. I can invite people and send them the password too in the same email. All they need to do is enter the password for the site before being able to see the pics. There is no need to register. For eg. try this URL: http://harikrishnans.shutterfly.com
Once you know the password, you will be able to see the pics. :)

Edit: I looked at Snapfish before. Though it offers unlimited storage with free accounts, you have make some purchase once a year at their store. More importantly, if you want to download your pics in original resolution, you need to pay them. :(
Kinzin looks good though. Will try that too. Anything else along similar lines?

That password option looks good.

Don't know of other sites. Will update here if any nice ones are found. :)
