Id say spark as well for more than one reason

first off the build quality is a lot better than all the other cars listed here minus the Palio, has good warranty, good fuel efficiency, small means easier to drive, park and easier to live with.

Id have recommended the palio but i dont know how good the Fiat service and its a little over the budget, and its more for ppl who are little adventurous with the throttle hehehe

Edit: The Spark will have two issues - one is the dashboard location, and the second is the driving view. Be mindful of that. The hood drops away and blind side judgment has to be super-intuitive (if not accurate). I found out the hard way.

oh, so the indica isnt the only car to have this issue then. Well, he said that his dad had issues with a non existent hood. Well, TD it anyway :)

PS , if your dad can live with it, then give the indica a chance too naah ;) acres and acres of space inside

Spark anyday for this. GM recently reduced prices too. The basic model with AC comes for 2.9lacs ex showroom. Higher end models even include ABS and Airbags along with standard features.

wow, ABS and airbags in a spark? which model of spark is it?

I thought LT is the top end model in spark (I own one, but its not with ABS and airbags).

EDit: yes, now i checked. its optional. But for this price he can get a swift

@Medpal, you can go with Spark. Its really a good car for city drive.
I had a Matiz and now I have a Spark. Handling is very smooth and easy, not much energry needed for gear shift and steering, your parents will like this :ohyeah: . you can ask your dad to test drive it and decide.

Spark is a good car no doubt, but price cut every fortnight has hit its image hard. Also, resale won't be good as i10/Santro/WagonR. Same goes for After sales service.

Dec 2007 sales figures of small cars:
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto- 18,046
2. Maruti WagonR- 10,218

3. TATA Indica- 9,497
4. Maruti Omni- 7,721
5. Hyundai Santro- 7,690
6. Maruti 800- 7190

7. Maruti Swift- 6,373
8. Maruti Zen Estilo- 4,938
9. Hyundai i10- 3,737

Dude, going by that yardstick -the Omni is the 4th best car in the market. :) You're better off putting a CoolerMaster cabinet on 4 wheels. :ohyeah:

Some of the best cars in India will not figure in these lists ever - the Lancer Cedia, the Fiat Palio...just some of 'em. In some odd way, the Chevy and the ex-Daewoo tag of the Smart also carry a negative connotation.

As I said before it's the OP's choice. The Alto is the more conventional one and though the Spark is hardly unconventional in anyway, it's just going against what everyone else and their dog is buying.

Payne

PS: There's no safety in numbers. :D

Unfortunately the new palio(petrol) is nowhere near the old one in terms of the performance. Hopefully the diesel palio with the 1.3mjd engine should turn things around.

havent driven the new one, but the old one was a definite riot, although i expected this.

i love the spark though, very few drawbacks i could think of really, i dont entirely like the way it looks, with its beetle like tail lamps but hey, thats me

My dear friend when did i say those are the best cars in India ? I only gave sales figure of December 2007. And i10 is at the bottom of the list even then i recommend that.

Please read post number 20 again.

BTW, Spark with Power steering costs 3.67 lacs ex showroom, so thats around 3.8~3.9 lacs OTR.(Source Chevy Spark @ 2.89 lacs. With air-con! - Page 2 - Team-BHP)

Now thats NOT in the Alto LXi category, is it? Alto LXi would give both AC and PS.
I was also looking at buying a spark. The on road cost given here in hyderabad is

Spark Base - 3.33 Lakhs
Spark PS - 3.55 Lakhs
Spark LS - 3.72 Lakhs
Spark LT - 4.06 Lakhs
Spark LT (with Option Pack) - 4.40 Lakhs

This is the pricelist WEF Feb 1, and all are metallic paint prices, non-metallic versions are 6K (approx) cheaper.

hmmm, the spark with AC/PS for 3.55 OTR could potentially be an alto killer

the spark beats the alto hands down on nearly every front except perhaps marginally better handling and visibility on the alto ...

If only the GM pricks knew how to market it well and improved their ASS...sigh

hmm so it seems spark is the flavour of the day.

will be going for TD when my father is recovered full from his eye surgeries.

someone said Indica, I already own an Indigo Marina for family trips which my father seems wide to his liking and does not drive in city.

so a good compact car, better visibility and nice to drive in city is the preferance i am looking for.

as older people are hard to convince to change their opinion i will let them decide after TD and my inputs.
