my mom recently had a spine operation and is completely bed ridden. although the electricity rarely goes in my area, but i want to take precaution as she does not like to be without a fan.

i want a low cost battery + ups with atleast 3 hrs uptime

i would like to use max 2 x 20 watt bulbs + 2 regular ceiling fans

it would be great if i can use my comp or tv with it. (comp is a amd 3600+ rig with gfx card one hdd runned by powersafe 400watts smps + 2 x 19inch LCD attached to microtek ups.) it gives me 10 mins of backup time. Using the comp and getting a reduced 2hrs of uptime would also be ok.

I asked a local shopkeeper, he told me all gibberish which i could not understand... min cost was 14k but he said if you want to use a comp you need a better one atleast 20k...

if someone could enlightened me on the ups and the battery, it would be great. i want to weigh both options - with comp and without comp

regards
neo :)

i cant give exact details, but heres what i have at my place.

i have a 800 VA su-kam pure sine-wave ups with a maintenance-free battery (capacity dont remember) which runs around 2 tube lights and 2 fans for around 3 hours i guess.

look for pure sine-wave ones only. maintenance free batteries also dont need regular refilling of lead-acid or whatever.

wishing your mother a speedy recovery. :)

I installed a 850VA Luminous inverter- 4k

& Exide tubular maintenance free battery- 11k.

This setup provides power for 3 fans, 4tubes for around 6hrs.

Wishing your mom a speedy recovery.

wish your mom a speedy and healthy recovery :)

what about gensets, they might turn out to be cheaper and efficient

genset is not an option.... maintenance free - does it means not changing of water or something they do every two years or so..??? also how long is the battery life...??? 6-8 yrs??

.: LUMINOUS :. - this site is showing as malware.. any idea the correct homepage of luminous..

also techie : using the setup, can i run 2 low watts bulbs and 2 fans and a comp (config as mention)? i want backup between 2 to 3 hrs (max powercut if ever is 3 hrs)... any lower specs which would pull cost down...

i have not set a budget aside, and 15k looks ok to me... only i am examining my options to match my needs...

I have a setup similar to teche. But its a unbranded inverter with an exide maintenance free battery. Powers 3 fans and four tube lights for around 6-7 hours. The total cost was around 14k if i remember right.

Wishing your mom a speedy recovery :)

@Neo, in maintenance free batteries, water level has to be checked once every 6 months. A water level marker was provided with Exide battery I purchased.

I fear, site would not show such small spec. inverter, its better to go to a authorized dealer in your city.

Yes the usage you mentioned, will easily run on this setup.

Considering now its offseason, as peak season is summers when demand is high, you could get better deal than what I got!

6-7 hrs is great.. but a 3 hrs should also do... anyone knows where to find luminous in mumbai....

Exide tubular maintenance free battery - 11k.... can i get battery cost down..?? what specs to look for in a good battery..??

btw i got pretty bad reviews of luminous on mouthshut.com... what are your views.. most of them complaining about weak battery life in couple of months...
