Which Washing Machine

Yup whirlpool... I use a Whirlpool H65 top loading one with hotwash. Works really well. Costed ~14.5k a year and half back.

Throwing general questions (I need a wm!!) at the forum should not be encouraged.. why don't you tell the group your requirements, based on which folks can give you an idea.. there are hundreds of models available with a plethora of functions and a range of maybe Rs. 5K to 100K+ ..

Which functionality do you need.. Automatic, Semi Automatic.. or you might need a one that will 100% dry your clothes.. do you prefer top loading or front loading .. whats you budget..?

I would give IFB machines a big thumbs up...cos i am using it for the 3rd year...its machines may be a little costlier than its competitors, but IMO its well worth the quality it provides...if you have a good budget in the range of 40-50k, then IMO nothing and i mean nothing in that range beats Siemens.

We purchased Samsung automatic top loading more than 3 years back for around 12k. Very happy with it.

1. Get a fully automatic one if water flow is not a problem.

2. Get one with a steel drum. Plastic drums is a strict NO.

3. Using LG for the last 12 yrs with no problems whatsoever (using it everyday since all these years !). Actually left pens and coins inside quite a few times.

4. Get one which does not restart the entire cycle if there is a power loss or someone switches off the power supply.

5. Get a trolley and maybe an extension water pipe for the machine free from the dealer.

6. Get front loading - those have a better wash results than the top loading ones. These cannot be moved during daily use so keep that in mind.

7. IFB and Siemens are supposed to be very good. Not sure about the service, etc.

8. Get a bigger one than you actually require right now as these things lasts long and once your family increases you can accomodate more clothes..

thats it for the time being ....let us know what you get !!!

My pointers...

1) Front Loading (Tumble wash, best wash results....even clothing companies recommend them)

2) Fully Automatic

3) SS Drum

4) Mechanical controls..... skip the feather touch electronic controls.... they have less life & they are not rugged.... You will loose on some minor functions though which are unnecessary....

Now a days every company has front loaders though IFB & Siemens were the first to come up with such machines so they are preferred... Look into your budget & then decide....

If you can get a machine with de-scaling function & water softening it would be nice 'coz all over India we get hard water & converting water to soft water is good for cloths... though these functions would be found in only top of the line machines if you can spend well.....

front or top loading both are preferred.Budget is <20K.Dryer not mandatory.
Thanks guys&gals oops it should be gal :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: .will go though all of ur posts.kneo gr8 check list.:hap2: :hap2: :hap2:

SS drum is very important as it only can withstand the rigours of daily washing.

Tumble wash in front loading is good and cleans clothes better but has more maintenance involved (eg: suspension wears out, front glass/acryllic door may get slightly scratched with pennies in the pocket, pant zips etc, front rubber wears out, foam comes out sometimes) and requires little effort and bending to load/unload.

I think only IFB supplies driers in India. But it is great if you can get one. You can ask the salesman for a model which can be mounted on top of your existing washing machine to save space.

6 kg wash capacity or more is ideal for a family of four(even this may not suffice for some).

Have used whirlpool, IFB and LG washing machines with mechanical and electronic controls. Electronic controls have much better tactile response. Both are prone to failure eventually I guess. I donno about this. I keep my LG top loading m/c with electronic controls which I have been using for 4 years without problems in my balcony. It has braved the very hot day sun facing the east, has been rained on, been coated with layers of dust from outside but still works fine :). Only have had to clean the water input filters.

Semi automatic is only for those who are extra concerned that their clothes would get frayed or damaged during the spin cycle. Not a good buy IMO also.

Not all washing machines come with hotwash. Better to get this option. It comes useful sometimes with cottons. IFB, Whirlpool and LG would be recommended based on my experience. IFB/Siemens has some good german tech and have been in the business for a while. Whirlpool is an american company and I've been using their fridges. Quite good stuff I must say. American tech focuses on user comfort and might not be as power efficient as Japanese tech. LG...well my experience with their products has been good( I rate them better than Samsung.) They are also worth having a look at IMO.

P.S. Goes to show that gals aren't the only ones doing the washing at home. :ashamed:

check out Kenstar washing machines

it has tumble was with top loading.. best of both worlds - easier to operate & good cleaning..

a comparable IFB model costs at least 5-7k more

it takes up 60% of space that IFB would take

it has wheels and can be moved around

it has mechanical controls, variable spin & temerature settings

it is backed by Videocon

I've been using for 4 months and am truly satisfied with it.. bought it primarily for the size & portability.. have loved the results so far

IFB rocks go for it. Our first IFB wm lasted for 15 years.. second in 4th year
abs no poblems... excellent service if reqired...
