Dear all, Im currently using BSNL BB wired at home. The plan is 750/- unlimited.
Now Im not happy with both the service & tariff.

Please suggest me some good plans for wireless Internet because I need to use with my Laptop while on the move.

Inquired locally:

Vodafone - 2G data card for 1500/- & 400/- month unlimited.

Airtel - 2G GPRS on mobile, 98/- 2GB & 500/- month unlimited.

BSNL - 2G Data card 2500/3000/- 275/- month unlimited.

Now I don't really know how these 2G speeds are. On BSNL BB wired, Im getting 256kbps download speeds.

Also, what if one uses ones mobile phone instead of a data card & attach with USB cable/bluetooth. How are the speeds & general experience with this setup?
P.S: Saw Photon+ & 3G plans from DOCOMO, both seemed expensive compared to 2G.

Please suggest me which one to choose!

stick with wired broadband and buy a wireless router instead.

If you are not happy with ISP, try others.
2g speeds can't be compared with wired high speed broadband, upgrade your plan to 1Mbps unlimited if BSNL is the only provider.

That's right, the plans you are looking at are GPRS ones, so don't expect any speed at all. Browsing would be fine, but no download, streaming videos, even Show Off section on TE :D

The present Wired BB im using is with a Wifi router but since my workplace is nextdoor & the premisis being large, the range is not sufficient.
I need more mobility within the premisis & sometimes at various places within the City.

So, need a solution for this, a cheap alternative!

Because the Wired BB that Im using currently isnt lightening fast either.

Secondly 2G reduces recurring costs significantly.

Also, while opting for a Data card, should one buy a locked or an un-locked one?

Locked cards cost ~ 1.5k while un-locked ~ 3k.

& how easy/diff is it to get the locked ones un-locked?

256kbps broadband will be far far faster than a 2g connection :P usually with any wireless connection you will see inconsistency in speed.

I use a 2g card with unlocked idea netsetter and vodaphone sim (Rs. 98/2gb plan) and is fine for my needs as there is only simple mail checking and stuff.

but if you do even a bit of downloading, then i will recommend to stick to your existing broadband.

another thing i would want to add is most of the locked modems can be unlocked pretty easily on the net or with local guy. Me had unlocked my net setter online. And the price differnce between a locked and unlocked would be more like 300 bucks or so.

Vodaphone is offering its data card for 1200 bucks at our office with 98/2gb plan which is thing is pretty fair given everything. I couldnt confirm the model it would be, so cant confirm if that stuff can be unlocked

Thanks, just got Airtel GPRS activated. Plan is:
22/- for 7days, 350mb.

Posting from the same, decidedly no speed demon but not bad either!
What more can ask from a mere 22/- connection!

In case Im to use internet with a Data card, which should ISP should I opt for? Im operating in Punjab circle.

Don't want to spend more than 750/- a month.

Saw:

Photon Plus - 850/- monthly, unlimited, 3.1mbps. 5gb speed capping. Modem - 1800/-

BSNL EVDO - 750/- monthly, unlimited, 2.1mbps. Modem - 2500/-

BSNL 3G - expensive plans but ipad unlimited plan is exciting. Btw, can it be used with regular laptop? Modem- 2.5-3k.
Guys please suggest which would be the best of these & which USB stick to opt for with 3G(locked/un-locked)?
