Whistling Cricket Windows XP Tweaking Guide v2.3

:hap2: This guide looks very different from everyday guides, check it out :cool2:

Welcome to my Windows XP tweaking guide. You may be thinking, "Oh no, not another tweaking guide!". However, don't skip this one up. This tweaking guide is different in the fact that all tweaks have been tested and verified. I use these tweaks on my computer as well and I don't want some crappy un-tested or incorrect tweak on my computer. Call it an OCD but am I the only one that wants my computer to be free of clutter and garbage? Anyways, I'm sure you'll find something useful whether you've done lots of tweaking before or just started to tweak your computer. With the exception of the introduction and conclusion pages, this guide will be to the point. I'll explain each tweak and application but I'm not going to ramble on and on about stuff.

Hey, I'm the owner of the Whistling Cricket Tweaking Guide and just saw this site come up on google. Nice to know people are enjoying the guide. Although the link is broken because of a change to the guide I made so here's the new link.

who_is_genius, you say all the tweaks are old, however the tweaks in my guide are the ones I've found to be actual real tweaks that work, not made up or tweaks carried over from older operating systems. If you know of some real tweaks I don't have in my guide feel free to suggest them so other people can reap the benefits too.

Vyrticl, welcome to TE, nice to see you register on our forums and thanks for posting the updated links, must say your guide is a refreshing change from many other guides, keep up the good work and keep visiting TE :)

yes i liked the guide & was using many of the tweaks that are mentioned there.

the prob was that the link was broken & couldnt forward it to most of my friends, although i saved the page on my hdd. thx for the new link.

@Vyrticl - can u tell me if there are any changes in the guide in the new link that you have posted. or is it the same guide as before.

The changes that have been made since the guide was first posted here are

v2.5 - February 6, 2006
[ + ] Keep your computer up-to-date because it's always good to update your computer.
[ @ ] Increase NTFS performance with an additional tweak that sort of... slipped through the cracks.
[ @ ] Disable failed DNS caching with an additional setting.
[ @ ] Various minor changes to the guide.

v2.4 - January 21, 2006
[ + ] False Tweaks from my webpage to the guide. It just seems to fit much better in the guide rather than on a page by itself.
[ @ ] The Services on the printable version of the guide so they're finally readable.
[ @ ] Configure System Restore with more information on how to configure it if you want to keep it enabled.
[ @ ] Configure System Restore with a more accurate description and a warning to not disable if you don't have another backup solution.
[ @ ] CCleaner with some updated information on what to clean.
[ @ ] Configure Remote Assistance & Remote Desktop with better information for configuring it.
[ @ ] The service, Remote Desktop Help Session Manager, with a better recommendation.
[ - ] Easy installation from Configure System Restore and Disable Hibernation.

If you're the kind of person who likes looking at the general progression of a project, you can always find an up-to-date version history of every release since version 1.05 at

Vyrticl, if you dont have any problems, then why dont you post your Whistling Cricket Windows XP Tweaking Guide in our Guides section http://www.techenclave.com/forums/guides-and-tutorials/

It would be great for TE to host your well made guide, and easy for members to query you for any doubts and clarification.

The only problem with that is that I'd have to keep the guide updated at 2 locations and that could get very time consuming. I could post a link to the guide and keep a version history list updated, but I'm not sure that would be good enough considering all the other guides have the guide directly in the topic.
