White coloured ruler (scale) needed

I have a 1-foot steel ruler that's painted white (not steel coloured) with black markings. My daughter bought it for me from a local shop more than 10 years ago and I've ben using it every day ever since. It was priced about the same as a common steel ruler but the white colour makes a big difference in use. It's one of my most valuable tools.

Although I take very good care of it, it is inevitably showing signs of wear and the markings are partly rubbed off. I can't find it online and, over the past several years, I and my family have searched in the local market many times without success.

If anyone happens to find one in their local market, I'll really appreciate it if you could buy 2 or 3 and send them to me. I'll pay for expenses of course.

The photo was taken in 2013 when it was still in better condition.

If you don't mind DIY then you can stick IKEA paper tapes on a metal scale.

Not sure if it helps...

Thanks for your interest. I should have made it clear that I need one made of steel. I have a 20-inch anodized aluminium ruler and white plastic ones are not hard to find. These are useful but too delicate for many applications.

Thanks for your continued interest, guys. But my needs are very specific.

Aluminium and plastic scales in various colours are easily available in local shops here. I have some of those as well as several bare steel ones. What I need is a steel ruler painted white, preferably with the scale starting right from one edge.

At slightly over 1mm, the one I have is thicker than the other steel rulers I have (usually 0.8mm) and is quite strong and stiff. Ideally, the markings, as you can see in the photo, could be slightly thinner to make precise measurements easier. Otherwise it's perfect for me. I never imagined that it would be impossible to find again.

Another thing I used to search for is a ruler on which inches are sub-divided in decimal, not 1/8th and 1/16th. I finally found it at AliExpress and ordered a pack several years ago. But they are very thin and are only 6" long. At the time, there were only a few 1-ft versions and those were priced inordinately high. I've never been able to find a ruler with decimal inch sub-divisions in India.

I use the ruler practically every day for my work in electronics as well as for taking physical measurements of many other things. I used to have unusually good eyesight when I was younger but it has degraded with age (I may be the oldest TE member). With the help of a good ruler and my glasses, I can still take measurements with a precision down to about 0.1 mm. A ruler with high-contrast markings makes a big difference in that kind of work.

I have several other rulers, tapes and high precision measuring tools but the white ruler is the one I use most often.

Do you make youtube videos also of your work in electronics? Would love to check them out if thats the case. Where are you from btw?

Perhaps the existing ruler has a maker's mark or label that could be used to identify the manufacturer to contact them.

Alternatively a small foam paint roller and a bottle of white acrylic paint from the stationery store could make a regular steel ruler into a high contrast ruler.

I briefly thought of that long ago but dismissed the idea as far fetched since the manufacturer is probably a small one. "Ajanta Scale" is what's printed on the ruler. Now that you've brought it up, I did a quick search and found several sources. Thanks for the heads up.
The problem is that, while many shops show a white Ajanta ruler, they always describe the colour as "silver" which I take to mean unpainted steel. A common practice with Indian online shops is to display some stock photo without caring about accuracy. This has caused me to make several purchasing mistakes in the past. I'll keep looking.

To give just one example: I'd been looking for a small table clock for a very specific application and had strict requirements. One of the most important of these was that it must have a long prominent second hand.
I ordered the one shown on the left from Amazon, but the one I received was the one on the right with a thin short second hand. I contacted the seller but he didn't show any regret and tried to blame the manufacturer.

That's the one. I browsed their site briefly but you beat me to finding the one I want.
Good news: It seems they can ship directly to individual customers. The site price is probably higher than at retailers but that hardly matters in my situation. Shipping is a flat 25/-
I'll keep looking to see if they have anything else I want.
Thanks again.

Pick up a few. You might not get another chance

Or just one to check if its the right one and then more after.

I'll certainly order more than one. OTOH, the one I have now has lasted me for more than 10 years, at least half of that in excellent condition. So buying, say, a dozen now wouldn't make much sense.
Thanks for your interest.

Update:
I ordered some rulers from the site five days ago but haven't received any update from them.
I could not find any provision to create an account, so I placed the order without creating one. The process was quite straightforward. No hassles.
Their home page has a log in link but no way to create an account. Weird.
I emailed them two days ago but have not received a reply.

E-commerce outside the guide-rails and SOPs of the large marketplaces can be pretty eccentric.

A webcam manufacturer from China once replied to my e-mail query six months later after I had long forgotten about it.

Hopefully the package will appear in the post one of these days.
