5-7 days back..i upgraded my Nvidia drivers to the new version 169.21 WHQL drivers for XP.And then i played Crysis...which ran like a miracle on my 7600GS...just 2 days back..on Saturday,i started experiencing problems on the new display drivers frm Nvidia..

i have set the "turn off monitor" option after 2 minutes for my monitor.on saturday i booted my PC and went for a bite to eat..by the time i returned my PC was on and the monitor was OFF (as i have set the "Turn off monitor" option). i moved my mouse and the screen came back..but it was black, i clicked my mouse, used the "alt+ctrl+del" option but neither the keyboard or the mouse gestures responded.i pressed the "reset" button and restarted my comp and this time the mouse and the keyboard gestures responded during the "welcome" screen (on xp) and the moment the wallpaper and the icons appeared ,mouse pointer froze and keyboard keys refused to respond.i then booted the pc in safe mode and everthing worked fine...

i finally realised that the new display drivers were giving me problems :S  :( and i rolled back to the old stock dispaly drivers that i had got along with the card i had purchased....

(by the way,i had looked up the Nvidia site and before downloading i saw that my card was mentioned in the list of supported GPUs)

In a nutshell, the problem is;whenever i install the new display driver the keyboard refuses to respond and the mouse pointer freezes on the screen..

Now, for the time being i have installed the old drivers...and now Crysis is like stone age game on my PC and the GFX r horrible...

Only the new driver helped me to play crysis well :@ :(

i want some solution to the the above problem and ASAP as i m really looking forward to play Crysis soon on the new drivers

Thank u all in advance....

Apart from the slowdown in other games, I haven't noticed any similar problems with my card, but it's an 8 series card. The only advice I can give is to try a safe mode install, and if that doesn't work then you might have to wait for the next official release.

Boot up the system in safe mode and uninstall the nVidia drivers from Device Manager. I usually sweep out the 'inf file (it starts with oem*.inf where * is a number) from the \windows\inf folder and do a manual clean from the system32 folder for all related files. I physically check each file starting with 'nv' and open the inf files to find out which file to delete.

Then boot again in safe mode, install the Standard VGA driver from Microsoft.

Finally boot into Windows and install the drivers.

When the system comes back up, the drivers should behave like a fresh install.

If problems still exist I'm afraid there is some incompatibility. I have not studied the driver release notes in any detail so can't shed any light on it, but do post back and we'll try and see if there's something we can do.

thank u so much for the reply sangram, i will try ur solution and let u know wot happens :)...i wud also like to ask, wud it be better to format and install the new drivers along with the fresh installation of the OS ?

Ideally yes, in case you have no issues about getting the system back to where it is now, the best thing to do is a clean install.

Post back once you're done.

I have some gripes with the new driver as well.

I have an Nvidia 7800GT and it's working flawlessly since day one. I recently downgraded back to XP from Vista and I'm having this problem I've never faced before.

Whenever I switch my PC back on after Hibernation the display starts corrupted after a few seconds of usage and eventually the computer starts freezing after about 15 seconds and the display stars going on and off after a few seconds and eventually the PC just restarts after which it's absolutely fine until I hibernate again.

My problem is almost similar to urs.........

Probably you guys have not uninstalled the drivers properly....so certain files of the older version are messing up with the new 1s

Try driver cleaner..........google for it :P

may b u have installed BETA drivers frm nvidia which su**. I had some problems wen i had installed BETA drivers for my 8600 GT they gave me all sorts of problem :@ so better way use a version of drivers lower than recently released :)
Also u can try Customized Drivers for Nvidia n ATI cards frm guru3d.com there drivers are superb simply superb specially tweaked for performance EXCLUDING other Nvidia crap :P .These tweak drivers helped me lot on my issues with 6200 gfx :) So hope it will help u too :) n here is the link download from Guru3D.com

yea u can also try DriverCleaner :) but sadly its paid :ashamed: :@
but then CR@CK$ are made for ppl like us (atleast like me  ) so u can try cra**ed version too n try complete removal of drivers of previous verions :)

The Beta drivers fortunately worked fer me and reported better fps(abt 3-5 fps increment)...

As fer Balkazaar, use Drivercleaner or uninstall it from Windows and do a clean install of the same on the next reboot..

Or u can revert bak to the one before the 169.21...

^^ I found the betas worked better for me too, those are what I had installed.

Anyway, to each their own. I'm rolling back this evening.

I rolled back too, to the beta drivers I had (I think it was .18) and my fps in Oblivion is back up in the low 30s outdoor and mid 40s indoor, with HDR, 8xAA (I use a trick), 16xAF and Quarl's texture pack, all running in 1680x1050.

In short, the new nVidia drivers didn't work for me at all, but for a different reason. Somehow it looks like Pro Street is also a bit smoother but it's res-capped anyway so...

FWIW I use two fps monitoring utilities (Rivatuner and FRAPS) right now so that kills a bit of performance. Plan to dump one of them soon.

I wouldn't worry about beta drivers, I've never had a driver issue that couldn't be solved by rolling back. Driver rollback in XP actually works, use it.

Good to hear tat...

Amen... :)

guru3d and other sites seem to report a LOT of complaints about the latest driver. I'm on 167.26 now (came with my card). Going to try 169.13 since many posts claim that its a lot more stable than .21.
