I know this is a stupid question, but I'm a total n00b when it comes to consoles, and I'm interested in the PSP. I know its like deciding to buy a shoe and asking what it offers, but what the hell :bleh:

It will be very helpful if someone can answer a few queries :

1. Other than gaming, what all can i do with a psp?
2. Third party apps support?
3. Which version of psp slim to get, if I'm going to hack it with custom firmware?
4. Battery life when listening to music.
5. Which memory card to get (size, make) and its price.

I know these are very very basic questions, but since I really have no clue, I had to get these clarified :)

well, beside gaming music and videos is one thing it can do.
there are a lot of homebrews which add book readers and what not, but many dont work with slim psp.
the newer version of psp - 2000 with a particular mobo are still not hacked. and so is the psp 3000.

as far as memory card goes, i would pick up a microsd to pro duo adapter from dealextreme and then use microsd cards. 4/8gb ones would be gud enough.

adapter will cost abt 300 bucks and the 8 gb micro sd card abt 1300 bucks.

+ Music

+ Video

+ Skype [VOIP]

+ Internet Radio [Awesome]

2. Third party apps support?

Only after CFW i guess , search yourself.

3. Which version of psp slim to get, if I'm going to hack it with custom firmware?

+ Get any PSP 2000 only , the latest PSP 3000 has some screen issues while gaming.

4. Battery life when listening to music.

Well havent checked that specifically but is good.

For Video playback its close to 6hrs nonstop though.

5. Which memory card to get (size, make) and its price.

Get SanDisk 8GB , it gets full with ur music and audio.

any psp 2000 won't do , the "G" version my friend got lately is not moddable so :( make sure thers a previous letter on it other than G

I heard that DA released a hack for the mobo already.

Besides, make sure that if your main requirement is music at high volumes, you better get something else in tandem with PSP. PSP is not having that loud volumes to be honest but the audio is very sweet and clear.

In game the volume is loud but while playing music and videos its a bit low.

But with headphones its perfect.

I mostly use headphones while listening to music and videos.

The volume no doubt is quite good enough for mild listeners.

But I love to listen music at high volume. I use my W810 for that and that seems pretty much perfect to me.

Ofcourse, the sweetness of the sound is too good to ignore.

With in ear headphones like 630, music too becomes good on PSP if you like low volumes.
