Hi there,

Question for all -
I recently started using PS3 optical out to the spitfire using a nice Belkin optical cable. The PS3 is loaded with WAV converted flac files using dbpoweramp.

To my surprise the audio quality is not good at all. Using Xonar STX coax out the output was splendid but with PS3 the treble is shrill & grainy & overall poor soundstage .The dynamics are super compressed compared to previous setup.

What's wrong in the chain? I mean why should there be any difference in 0s & 1s
Any suggestions??

They are not 0 and 1, but an electrical signal that represents 0 and 1.

In human terms, language is not reality, but a representation of it. In the same way, digital audio data transmission represents the data but is not the data itself. The construction and reconstruction at both ends is what gives you the actual data.

Read about Jitter, you will begin to understand.

I would suspect the Belkin audio cable to begin with, followed by the PS3 itself.

I'm suspecting the PS3 is applying some EQ or some other form of processing before sending the signal out through your Coax. In which case I wouldn't blame the cable at all.

@ Benny
Yeah maybe... The ps3 has audio output on the scale of -4 to +4. At +3/+4 there is lots of distortion as well.
I thought the PS3 would output a really clean signal , ....highly disappointed.
Do we have any USB to coax/Toslink converters available in India?
Else can anyone suggest a cheap soundcard with coax/optical out?

Nuforce udac has a coax out. But I feel the gain is less when that is used as transport compared to when I use my Marantz Cdp coax out with my dac.
