I use a fluke and also have a bevy of cheap multimeters around the house.

With the fluke, I am comfortable using my own fingers as the ground with the sensor wire plugged in mains.

With the cheap ones, I prefer using any nearby metal object as ground.


These cheap DMMs are typically rated up to 600V. While I wont use them anywhere near 600, 220V is absolutely fine with them.
