Hello friends ,

I would also like to share something that the seagate employees did not tell .Well here it goes .
1 :All older drives then the seagate 7200.11 was using a firmware that was based on the same principal ,I mean the commands that a person in seagate could use in the firmware to check and repair the drive .Then those commands became public and the data recovery tech guys came to know and use them ,this was alarming to seagate and they though that they will change all the commands and then the data recovery people wil have a tough time to work on the newer drives ,In this process they screwed up lots of this and it took them many many revision to sort that .
2 :I would also bring to your notice a mechanical issue with these drives ,Mostly the seagate 500gb ,thay have flawed motor bearings ,Means if the hdd that is running gets a jhatka that is beyond that stupid motor rating "the rating is also very under rated " the drives spindle stops moving ,Leaving us with a proper hdd proper firmware but a non spinning drive .then the method to do recovery is to shift the platters from the flawed drive to the working drive .

hey amarbir can you recover data from a Seagate ST32500320AS

i think its mechanically perfect..

drive spinning and powering on ..but not detected in the BIOS. and windows.

i think its the usual Firmware issue. .but i am not able to update the firmware.

can you by any chance solve the problem by updating the firmware ..and recovering data..(without voiding warranty.ie-opening it up)

do let me know..if you dont mind please PM me the approximate charges.

No offense to Amarbir, but why risk it? You ARE aware that seagate is offering FREE data recovery services on affected drives? Just tell them to do it :P

No Idea Baeee Jee Sacchi .

No Idea Baeee Jee Sacchi .

The company does not believe that the firmware problem will cause data loss. But data has been lost, it promises to help find it. "There is no data loss associated with this issue, and the data still resides on the drive," Seagate's statement reads. "But if you are unable to access your data due to this issue, Seagate will provide free data recovery services. Seagate will work with you to expedite a remedy to minimize any disruption to you or your business."
