Hello Guys

Am in need of a Wi-Fi Router

( & please guide me, as am a NOOB, don't know how to Setup one or which one to GET )

Firstly : My ISP is Airtel ( Modem Bettle 220 BX1)

I googled and got confused whats an wi-fi + ADSL Router ? is it only a Wi-fi router that i should buy or a Wi-fi/ADSL Router ?

I'll be using the Router for : Phone, Xtreamer ( Media Player ), Laptop .

Requirements : Decent Wi-fi Router with Good Range, Torrent Download Capabilities , should read 3G Data card ( ???)

Budget : 2.5 -3k ( As much as Least Possible )

Thank You :)

Your ISP requires a ADSL modem...You can either go for a new Wifi Router with ADSL modem like the Linksys WAG160N (Note: WAG160N doesn't have a USB port) or use your existing modem in combination with a Wifi Router like Asus RT-N13U. The RT-N13U can download torrents directly to a HDD, also the newer rev B1 supports some 3G usb modems.

Buy a cheap shit ASUS/Netgear router. Connect it to the Beetel. Also the Asus RT-N13U, will require you to know a bit of Linux etc for you to successfully able to dl torrents etc on it.

You do realize if you wanna use the RT-N13U to DL torrents onto an attached USB disk, will require you to flash it to custom firmware and then use non-GUI tools to get Torrents working on it. Just saying that the N13U might be a waste of money, unless you plan to use this functionality.

Unless you specifically need Wifi-N, you could get a cheap ASUS/Netgear router for 1200 and it will do your job.

^ LOL, you're confusing him with the jargon!

Well Hector, for the time being, you just need to know is that if you already have an ADSL modem with you(that Airtel gave) then you will not require a ADSL+WiFi router. Instead, you can buy a cheap wifi router from Netgear or Asus or Buffalo or any brand of your choice. Basically, all of them will get the work done.

And you would not require much help configuring the router. Just follow the step by step instructions on the CD that comes with it and you'll be using Wifi in no time.

Cheers!

sorry nitant but the new RT-N13U supports downloading torrents using stock firmware. No need to install custom firmware and "Linux". The newer h/w rev B1 can download 4-5 torrents to the USB disk simultaneously on factory stock firmware.

Get any WiFi router... you did not mention the area you are trying to cover. I have a 600 sq ft 1 storey house and the router is placed in the 1st floor. Its a el cheapo Pronet WiFi router and I get range almost anywhere in my home, in fact it leaks onto my neighbors too :bleh:

Unless there is any electromagnetic interference you should be good with any WiFi router.

Err...you could pay 1.5K and get a Beetel Wi-Fi Router+Modem from Airtel.

When you're done with it, return it and walk away. :)

^ what about it? I use a Beetel 450TC1 Wifi Router.
I think hector is looking for a router which can download torrents on its own to a USB drive.

Hector, you can get the Asus WL-520GU for about 2k, but then you need to load custom firmware to enable downloading to its USB drive.

As per your requirements the RT-N13U or above..available for less than 3k. It has all features you need.. Usb port, downloading from http / BT, N-router supports upto 300Mbps (good for video streaming), and also supports USB 3G modems ...PM me if you have any questions
