Hi,
I bought a 3200+ and asus a8n-vm for my friend. But when i started the pc,
An error came up saying "Processor installed is of unknown revision.System halted".

Also the cpu fan was not running when i connected to the cpu connector pins.
It ran when i connected to the chassis fan connector on the board.
When connected to the cpu fan connector, the fan rotates when i loosen a screw on the mobo and when i just rotate the scew the otherwise it stops.???!!
Also when i held the motherboard in mid air it starts spinning and in the chassis it stops sometimes and sometime rotates.
The dealer told me to align the motherboard straight for it to run,But i never heard this kind of solution from anyone. I mean i assembled the mobo normally or is there any other special way to assemble this mobo?

.

Recent ASUS Boards (Integrated Graphics based) have got a weaker BIOS, they don't seem to recognise the "Venice" Core well, also they don't overclock well. Onboard sound is also not so good, I don't know what's happening to these ASUS Guys. On the other hand brands like MSI and FOCONN are manufacturing descent boards. Wake up ASUSTek!!

Well i suggest you update the motherboard BIOS.Doing so will solve your problem of CPU not detecting properly.;) As for the CPU Fan connector on the motherboard. i think some pins under the mobo are getting shorted, that is why this is happening.

Weaker BIOS ??? care to explain what exactly that means ? my friend.Well logically if the motherboard comes with an older revision BIOS and that particular BIOS doesnt have the CPU ID for the newer core revisions, then how do you expect it to detect it ?
These things do happen, happened when i got the A8V Deluxe board with 3000+ Winchester, earlier board was unstable, frequent dumps n all,BIOS update solved the problem.
Well you should be thankful that Asus has atleast given basic OC options on their IGP boards, earlier these options failed to exist. Also these boards are not meant to be insane overclockers so be realistic about your expectations.:P
Onboard sound is not good ? meaning ? come one man these are value solutions, not meant for high end systems, what all do you want from a cheap motherboard ?
Are you trying to say MSI and FoxConn are better in terms of quality and overall bundle compared to Asus ?:S

^^ Exactly... there is no such thing as a weak bios..:P Either its an older revision of bios or an updated version. Check the asus website for the latest bios version of a8n-vm..that shud definitely solve the cpu identification problem.

Also the onboard sound of A8n-vm is provided by soundmax..its quite reliable and one of the best onboard sound solutions in this price range..

Regarding the quality and reliability of mobos, this is the first time i'm hearing that foxconn and msi are better than asus.. :O

^Arnov- Foxconn, i do not know many users neither have i used one!!:)

But i have pals who are shifting from MSI to ASUS, due to service isues!!:S
I dunno but they say ASUS is better in aftersales though quite a few members who faced probs with their mobos here on TE had a harrowing time with repair/replacement!!:S
So, I guess if thats good then i really Dunno how good MSI or foxconn is, in India!!

With Neo4 platinum and A8NSLI Deluxe/ platinum, etc... not many seem to have had a prob- but these mobos came at a Deluxe/Premium too!!:P

Goddamn A8NE had initial teething probs but Rev 2.0 released soon after put all issues to rest!!

So as per my limited knowledge, as far as India is concerned, for the average and mildly enthusiastic user, ASUS rules for a stable option!! (DFi is in a diff league altogether and only for the serious enthusiast!!):cool2:

This BIOS Problems is only with these Latest ASUS Boards like ASUS A8N-VM and ASUS A8N-VM CSM, otherwise NForce 4 Ultra Boards and SLi based are definitely the best offered by ASUS be it ASUS A8N-E, ASUS A8N SLi Deluxe, ASUS A8N SLi Premium or ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe, they all have dominated in their own perspective and they offer the best value for Money.
