Laptops Wierd problem with Laptop and external speakers

I have a toshiba laptop and altec lansing USB powered 2.0 speakers to complement that. Till day before yesterday the speakers were working fine. But here is the scenario of yesterday

1. Speakers connected to laptop, sound comes only from one speaker. On adjusting the 3.5mm jack (removing little out), sound comes from another speaker and stops from first one and also it diminishes.

2. Headphones / Earphones connected to the laptop, sound comes proper through the earbuds

3. Put a FiiO E5 in between the speaker and laptop still problem of case 1 persists.

4. Connected the speakers to my MP3 player and also to phone and it works fine, sound comes fine through both the speakers

It short it is totally :S :S

Really don't know where the issue lies

Laptop audio out jack slightly bent/ loosened from inside (at the point of contact). May need some work.

^^ But my earphones are working properly with laptop

There is always a variance in connector size. The earphones plug may be slightly larger, causing it to achieve the stereo contact, which the speakers are unable to get.

Cheapo Option without hassle, get a small 3.5mm - 3.5mm extension cable and check...
