I got my new Dell Studio 15 couple of days back but i have noticed that the wifi disconnects when the lid is closed.

I have set lid close option to do nothing when the lid is closed and also i have disabled windows from turning off the wifi adapter to save power. The laptop is set to be always on when on battery or when plugged in.
Is this a known issue with the Studio 15s or has it got something to do with the drivers?

^^ Will check that...but this happens even when the laptop is plugged into the charger.

Once the wifi is disconnected it says no wifi networks available for a bit. After searching for networks it fails to connect even when networks are available.

The only way to reconnect is to turn off the wifi and switch it on again and reconnect to the network.

PS : My older inspiron doesnt disconnect at the same location as the studio 15.

Edit : Seems like it has nothing to do with the lid closing...the wifi disconnected as i was posting this. Initially it refused to connect to the network...then got limited connectivity and finally reconnected again.

Is this a problem with the new laptop as i connected my phones and my other laptops without a problem....

Are you using the Default OS that came with the laptop? If so go to the relevant site (99% intel.com) and download updated drivers for wifi. This would fix the issue.

updated the drivers but the problem still persists...

anyone with a dell studio 15 facing a similar problem?

The wifi antenna generally extends from the base area and into the display (thru the hinges). see if anything is blocking that or if the wire became loose.

i've installed windows 7 and i am not facing the wifi disconnection problem.... vista seriously sucks!

Edit : Spoke to soon....same thing happened with windows 7 too...
