Wifi-hotspot for win xp/linux ?

Hi folks,

I am looking for an application similar to connectify Connectify for Windows - Turn your Laptop or Smartphone into a Secure Wi-Fi Hotspot for windows xp / ubuntu
i.e to turn my laptop into a wifi-hotspot
I tried creating "ics" manually, but couldnt get it working. So any app like connectify would serve my purpose.

p.s- only 2 (mostly 1) other devices will be using the hotspot.
I am having issues with win 7 and am using xp/linux

Any suggestions ?
