Folks,

I have airtel internet connection (not the unlimited surfing time but unlimited download plan) with a USB modem of Beetel make (couldnt find the exact model). Need advise from you on the following:

1) I am having a trendnet wifi router which I want to use to connect to the modem, so that I can wifi enable my laptop (apart from using it as physically connected to the desktop).

a) Should I ask for the ethernet modem from Airtel, if yes, which one is the best one?

b) Does airtel net connection work well with Trendnet routers?

c) Do I have to initiate the internet connection from my desktop?

Your help in this regard will enable me take decisions.

Mine is a 512Kbps unlimited download plan.

I guess that you have the 220BX (blue or grey). These have an RJ45 round the back. Just hook it up to the wi-fi router and your pretty much rigged to go...

you need a modem with a Ethernet port .... most of use the 220BX

next you need to set your modem in PpPOE Mode so that it can dial directly into the network without being connected to a PC to remove the dependency on PC dialup

Once the modem is set to connect on its own, you can hook it up to the router and you are all set...

Thanks for the reply. Actually the modem that the airtel folks gave me some three years back is an USB one and doesnt have the ethernet socket and I never had a chance to upgrade it. Looks like Beetel 220BX will do the job for me. I will ask for that when I communicate with Airtel. thanks for the replies.
