Hello,

I'm in a little predicament here guys, need your help. I've recently shifted from my parents house to a rented apartment about 3 houses apart. Here's a picture for better understanding:

My parents house (the red arrow) has an Airtel wifi router - Beetel 450BX1 configured that runs through the entire house and gives me coverage even outside on the road. What I need to do now is to somehow share the same connection at the other house. (the yellow arrow)

The distance between the two houses should be less than 100 metres for sure, but there would be a lot of walls to cover.

My question now is:

- Should I buy a wifi router with a better range to cover this area and change the airtel router at my parents house? Would this cover both the houses ?

- Or should I set up an access point sorta thing from the terrace of my parents house (red arrow). Would that reach my house ?(yellow arrow)

- If its a better wifi router that I need to buy, please suggest which one as I've not been in the market for a long time now and have lost touch with technology.

Internet will be used in both the houses over 2 laptops and a few mobile phones.

Thank you.
Amit

I can say confidently that the beetel crap will not deliver signal even upto 50m. I think you have to get some ultra range plus series routers for this distance and also i dont have idea on using an access point since i havent used any in my lifetime. Let the other members pour their ideas....

if you're going to put the router inside the house then i dont think it will cover that much distance, if its placed in the balcony then a good router should cover the distance easily, for the other end put up a wifi dongle with a usb extension cable in balcony and youre done. Laying a wire across also doesnt seem as such a bad idea, will also cost less.

according to me a Wireless-N Broadband Router (WRT300N) is sufficient for your need provided that you stick it out in or around the balcony. that shud get you atleast 60% of coverage area.
