will an older Athlon 64 processer work on an AM2+ motherboard??
my processor is AMD Athlon 64?? 2000+ i guess...
want an upgrade but no cash for new proccy....
please suggest any site where i can look up the processor support list for AM2+ chipset

I think it belongs to the socket 939 and wouldn't be supported on a socket AM2+/AM3 boards. Besides, 939 used DDR memory and the latter uses DDR2/DDR3 memory.

does your current cpu work with DDR1 or DDR2 RAM?
If it's DDR2, your chip should work in an AM2+ motherboard.

^ Is it possible to use Socket A / 462 / 754 in Socket 939 based boards because of DDR 1 support ?

@OP Confirm your CPU package first socket 754, 939 or AM2.

The only DDR2 desktop processors that AMD has made are based on the AM2 socket...and AM2 processors are compatible with AM2+ boards...so your analogy doesn't really work here.

I was actually looking at buying a 939 board but I figured this out. A new board on eBay costs min 3K. For 3.9K at Prime I can get a brand new Sempron 140+Mobo. Why bother with the AMD?

Which motherboard are/were you using?

Do use DDR RAM or DDR2 RAM?

Can you post a cpu-z screenshot or a clear picture of the actual processor?
