Hi All,

I have a PC with P4 2.8GHz CPU with D865GVHZ Mobo. I have come across a PCI to SATA/IDE converter on THeITBazaar.com.(pci+to+SATA).

I have 2 questions.

1. Will this work on my sytem, If I want to add a SATA Internal HDD in my system.?
2. Will my system support 250GB/320GB HDD?
Thanxx in advance.

^^ Sire, the answer to your questions are --

1) It will work fine, just check if you have free PCI modules on your motherboard.

2)It should support upto ~500GB hard drives.

Hope this sorts your query, Cheers!!! Sire.

Is it possible to boot from the drive connected to the convertor? i.e there is only one hdd in the pc and its connected to this converter

Yes mate it will work as long as you have free PCI slot in your mobo, regarding the second query, i am not sure with their capacity support limitation.
You can have a look at this from DVDSTOREDELHI, it supports RAID as well

Tech-Com PCI TO 1 E-Sata 2 Sata and 1 IDE ATA Card | eBay

Thanks, This helps.:cool2: Uptil now I was thinking of adding a 80 GB IDE to my system:(, Now I can add 250 GB SATA for the same cost.:ohyeah: And Yes, I have 2 PCI free slots available.

I have query of same category. I use XP from my IDE HDD. Will I be able to install another OS on a HDD added on this converter? I plan to install Linux(Radhat).

^^ You should be able to enforce a dual boot, but be wary depending on the quality of the expansion card, speeds will be affected. So the inference is that the boot from the PCi card -- SATA drive will be slightly slower.

But rest should work fine, hope this helped. Cheers!!!

^ i haven't tried and such card, will the attached HDD be displayed in the BIOS and under booting device?

Ordered tech-com card from dvdstoredelhi. Now time to purchase a used SATA.

Don't buy before you come across any USERS personal experience, till today I talk with few good H/W persons & they all said AVOID it if possible.

oh pal please dont forget to get your self the converter for the power that comes from the PSU. its available at all local computer shops.

Already ordered.:( Will it be much problem if HDD is used as storage only(to store & D/l torrents)? To be frank I went for it without any user feedback. I was tempted as I was beng able to add 250Gb sata instead of 80Gb IDE without much additional expenditure.

Speed will be less than native SATA and it may not support booting. So not preferred. Thats all!

Kevin, should be enough for your needs. But preferred solution is external HDD in such situation. If the solution does not work for you, just get an external casing and use the SATA HDD as external drive!

Very rare OS distros supports booting from those cards. Some XP mods with lots of drivers integrated will work. I once got a similar card for my friend and the only OS hes able to install is a Win XP *ahem* SP2 and one Win 7 *ahem* with lots of modifications and lots of softwares pre integrated. No other OS discs will detect the HDDs connected to it. So have a collection of OS distros with mods before deciding to install OS on it.

So, booting from Hdd via connector is going to be problem. Really sad. I would have to use it just as storage then. I would have to use a partition from my primary ide hdd for double booting i guess.

There is one another solution. Burn the drivers on disc or if there is any pre integrated software in disc to create a boot time installation of drivers then use that, and use the disc while installing OS.

* for XP, press F6 while loading driver files while starting to install OS before the partition table and EULA appear. It asks to load the disc with the needed drivers and load the disc for the sata card. It will install automatically and the HDDS connected to it will be detected afterwards and you can install OS on it.

*In win 7, while listing the partitions, there is a button "load drivers". When prompted for the disc when clicked on that, just insert the driver disc and it ll do the same as in XP.

If win7 drivers are not in disc, write down the IC name on the card and just google for its Win7 drivers.

No one will use win7 on a slow pc with a convertor like this , use nlite to integrate the drivers in the xp installation disk and it should work.
