Nope it won't let u connect, as its a simple RGB cable.......
What u need is a transcoder only for the ps3 as the for the xbox you get a vga cable so i'll suggest u to buy that directly instead of buying a transcoder.

And for the PS3 if u want to use the component port than i'll suggest
Neoya X2VGA 2 Home

Or else u can get a HDMI or VGA connector as simple as that but as VGA is analog and it does not support HDCP [HDCP = High Definition Copy Protection]. So i'll suggest if you have a DVI Input in your screen go for a HDMI to DVI convertor which will be the best option for the PS3.........
But remember your Display should support HDCP..........
And you will need a optical system to get the sound or a cable which splits audio and video from the HDMI cable.........

PS3 --> HDMI TO DVI Converter
X360 --> VGA Cable for X360

Thanks, the XBox 360 it is then. But where will I get the VGA cable ? On the Microsoft India website, it is listed as "To be announced"

Do I need to get it from abroad then ?

Have a look at a Local Planet M. I got my official MS X360 VGA cable from them.

nuke is right. There was an X360 to VGA cable being sold on Ebay for 700 Rs. just until a while ago. Can't seem to find it now.

How does it look through VGA? Could you run some comparisons?

Dont base your purchase decisions of console on this.

Though I personally prefer X360 the monitor connectivity should not decide your decision.

You get HDMI Male to DVI female adapters for close to 800-900 bucks if you go in for Bafo here locally. Generic are cheaper.

You can simply add a DVI-VGA adapter to it and then use normal monitor VGA cable or simply use DVI cable. This works just fine with PS3. And its available here easily. Works on X360 HDMI version as well.

Using it on my Viewsonic 1932 WS monitor and its looks fantastic. I used to play it on my telly in SD. Its so good I wouldnt play on my TV again even if you put a gun to my head.

In fact I would say if you are buying an Xbox 360 then its an essential purchase. Unless you have a HD TV.

Next gen consoles might work on SD Tv but they are meant to be played on HD.

Classic case in point Halo 3. I played it on my TV and would always get my ass handed to me online. Sniping was just not an option on the big maps for me. You couldnt really zoom in and see players who were far away. Swap that for my Viewsonic and I can actually use the sniper rifle for once. I still get my ass handed to me though but thats just cause I suck. :D

Thanks for the replies guys. But Funky I read up a lot on this and I was told that while HDMI - DVI is possible, you can't add a DVI to D-SUB connector, since VGA is not HDCP compatible. I will need a VGA box like andrew327 mentioned.

I dont think so m8.

HDCP comes into picture when you want to run DRM HD content like BlueRay and HD DVD. It wont affect the games.

Hmm, most PS3 sites say that it wont work, but anyways I am kinda leaning towards the Xbox because many more games are available, and second hand ones are also readily available for decent prices. For instance I am getting COD 3 for 800 bucks (new one almost Rs. 2600 !)

I will pick up the Halo 3 console next Sunday and I am buying a VGA cable from Play asia and a female - female adapter from Dealextreme.

This is the cable Buy VGA HD AV Cable with Optical Output - Order Now!

That's great! If I ever have the good fortune of getting an X360, I'd play it on my Viewsonic 1912W too(here that, gaming gods? Time to work your miracles).

Also ,what resolution are you running it at? The only two maximum resolutions allowed are 1240X1024 and 1378X756 or something. This was one of my worries. That it would end up looking all stretched.:(

1280 X 1024 usually with Widescreen enabled and it looks pretty sweet but the Official VGA cable supports a crapload of resolutions so I am sure you can find one that looks good on the monitor.
