Hi,

I bought a Western Digital 2.5" 500 HDD from SMC International, Nehru Place, New Delhi a few months ago for my Apple Mac Mini.

Since the past few days my HDD had been crashing for no apparent reason.

I ran a SMART reporter app which reports if my HDD is alright by using SMART data.

This is the message I got :-

I was advised by the app that my HDD had a hardware problem and that I should get it replaced.

Will SMC International replace it as it is under warranty or will I have to wait until my HDD becomes completely unusable?

Can I go to SMC international and get my HDD replaced just on the basis of SMART data report?

Where do I get the WD tool? do i download it thru a website?

what is RMA? Do i need the original bill to get the HDD replacement?

WD Support > Downloads > WD Scorpio & AV-25 - select the drive, download the 'Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows' tool, install it and run it.

RMA - Return Materials/Merchandise Authorisation. Essentially getting your product replaced/repaired if it is covered under warranty. You could have Google'd it rather.

You do not need the bill to claim the warranty. Go to this link, verify your serial number and proceed. You need to ship the drive to WD or have it collected by WD through a courier service.
