WIN 7 - HOW TO disable previous locations list in windows explorer

hello guys,

In MY COMPUTER (or windows explorer ) address bar , i usually navigate directly to a particular folder by typing the path itself . If i do so, the path name gets stored under the windows explorer address bar (not the search bar as i managed to disable it through gpedit.msc) .

For privacy reasons i want to disable it . Is there any way to disable even the windows explorer address bar history like the win. explorer search box history ??

I want to do the above in WIN 7

Go to registry and delete the any values(in the right pane) under the following key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TypedPaths

In right-side pane, u'll see various string values with the name url1, url2, url3 and so on with the values set to the path(which u see in drop down history). Simply delete all of them.

you misunderstood mate. I know how to clear the history even without touching the registry. I just want to know how to disable this feature. i.e., the locations should not be saved at all so that i need not go and clear it each and everytime. Hope you understood.

Any1 there plz help me..

Ohhh sorry.....I got it wrong....

Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Policies->Microsoft->Windows->Explorer

Right click Explorer and select New -> DWORD Value

Name it DisableSearchBoxSuggestions with a value of 1

Again you got it wrong mate. I meant disabling the previous locations of the address bar of windows explorer and not the search box. I meant the big lengthy box which is to the left of the search box of windows explorer. The search box suggestion can be disabled even through gpedit.msc which i am aware of.

I want to disable this not just clearing each and everytime. I want to completely disable this location saving feature:

I think now i made it clear...

I believe its directly related to autocomplete in IE. Did you try disabling that?

Also remove the remember history in IE, maybe that will help too cause the shell used both for explorer and internet explorer is the same.

I tried disabling autocomplete of IE but no fruit.

I am doubtful whether the 2nd method will work.

I dont know about removing the remember history in IE. But even if i manage to find out, i need history in IE and want to disable it only under explorer.

I don't know the exact solution, but there's a work around

write the following in a text file:

-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\TypedPaths

save it as *.reg (star being a wildcard) and put it in startup

now every time you switch on the omputer this key will be deleted from the registry automatically. I know this isn't the exact thing you are looking for, but it is better than other solutions coz its automatic!

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\TypedPaths

On the above "TypedPaths" folder in the registry structure:

Remove all permissions from the TypedPaths key (unselected 'Include inheritable permissions from parent')

instead of removing all inheritable permissions for every listed object and messing with the system, isn't is better to remove just the inheritable permissions for that logon account only? so that only that logon account won't be able to add typed urls to the list. the system, administrators, group should always have permissions imo.

@asing

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TypedPaths

I want to disable MRU of windows explorer address bar history in win 7. Sometime back I managed to disable it by the advice given by you and it worked in registry by right click Typed paths > permissions > unchecked include inheritable perm. From the objects parent.
Here I am given 2 options 1) Add or 2) remove. I selected Add and some warning dialog box appeared. Don’t remember after that. Then everything was Ok

But now even if I remove the above check box the MRU is not cleared.. So plz explain step by step how to do it…

Thanx in advance…
