Win 7 networking issues

I'm trying to connect 2 PCs running win7 x64 directly thru a crosscable. I setup a homegroup, and it worked fine, when on restarting, both PCs changed the network location from "Home" to "Public", and can't see each other in network places. Also, in the Network and Sharing center, I don't get the option of changing the network location.

Any thoughts on this?

Even I am facing the same issue.Have connected my laptop (running win7 x32) and desktop (running win7 x64) using a lan cable.So, I have to reset and create a new home group after every restart..Really frustrating..
