Win 8 not keeping time

Hi Guys,

Reasonably new Asus Laptop. Every time it goes to sleep the clock stops. When I open the top, the time is set at what it was shut at.

Google research shows that it might be a CMOS battery issue? How can that be? The laptop is never without mains power.

Any suggestions? Worth the effort to change the CMOS battery?

God, I hate Windows.

Pretty much a hardware problem (failed CMOS battery, as you mentioned rightly), so no point blaming Windows. The CMOS battery, AFAIK, is not rechargeable, so no question of whether the laptop was on mains or not.
How old is the laptop? I have an 8 year old laptop, and that has no issues yet. So, a drained CMOS battery is surprising, if the laptop was new. What is possible is that the battery might have been displaced from its location due to some trauma. Most laptops have these in highly inaccessible areas, so decide accordingly.

Also try windows time sync server address. Reset the service and make sure windows is synching time with the server.
Or google for more ntp servers and update the same in time.

Nope, only Win 8.1.

Tried the sync, but the max it does is once an hour. Not enough to keep the time uptodate when the computer is put to sleep.

Flashed the BIOS and it's OK now. Yes, it is a Windows related issue. Never have this kind of crap on Macs.
