I'm trying to get win7 32 bit working on a dg965 board, which I plan to use as a backup machine. The setup gets stuck at around 30%, then gives an error saying some files cannot be copied and setup cannot continue.
I then tried installing from a pen drive to rule out a bad dvd, but got the same error. I then downloaded the iso again, but with same results.

Then I tried the x64 version, and it installed without any problems. To check the x86 iso, I installed it on my main pc (m3a78-em), and was successful. Then I put that hdd into the backup PC and booted, and got an error saying windows cannot start, and gave me an option to repair. I told it to repair itself, and it was busy for 10-15 minutes, then it gave up. :(

Why?

your exact board model is 965ry, right ?. Ok. are you doing a fresh install or updating from vista / xp ?. Could be a hdd problem too. Are you successful in installing vista on the same partition ?.

Try installing it in a different partition. I think if it installs in a diff. partition, then there should be some file system errors or that particular parition might have gone bad.

Have you tried checking the partition for errors ?.

It should definetely install in 965ry, cuz m having win7 installed in my asus 865 mobo and it works like a charm.

You have stated u installed win7 with m3a78em mobo and used the same hdd for 965ry. How will this work dude, since the main setup itself is diff. Both are diff. hardware (m3a... amd and 965ry intel).

Fresh install. Win7 64 installs just fine. Win server 2003 installs fine. When I put this hdd in my other PC, then win7 32 installs fine. Only problem is installing win7 32 on dg965.

Will try that.

Well, it should shout about new hardware and then go about installing new drivers, right? Might not be clean, but it should work.

Hmm that's strange..don't know if it helps in any way but when i tried installing Windows 7 on my comp it used to go past the copying stage and then fail..After a lot of searching on the internet, i found out that if you have a USB drive(ext hdd) plugged into ur system while trying to install Windows 7, the installation fails..

Soln: unplug any USB drives and then try.

I was installing off an usb drive :P But installing from the dvd w/o any usb connected didn't work either.

I assume you are using SATA hdd. Check the sata settings in ur 965 bios. Have you tried latest bios ?. Then check for sata drivers. I think the windows 7 native sata drivers for the 965 chipset which are integrated arent that compatible with yours. Try googling and installing the latest sata driver for your chipset.

If the above dint work, then...

try a different copy of win 7 and check it. The version you are trying ot install is 7600. 163865, right ?
