Window Xp is dead, now what next?

I dont really understand why people like ubuntu... There is redhat, centos, oel, gentoo
Then there are kali, tails
personally I like redhat distributions
Personal preference I guess and Ubuntu is advertised as the most user friendly one, though I found forum support to be better on other versions on linux. For me I didn't like Fedora much, Arch is the best thing I have used in like ages .

You just answered your own question - its a personal choice. I have tried about 14 distros so far and found Ubuntu suits me the best.
That's the wonderful thing about Linux - there's a flavor for everyone to choose from. :)

Because not everyone using Linux:
1. likes to tweak all the settings, configurations, compile install packages manually, and seek workarounds
2. is really gungho about everything FOSS. People do use flash, mp3, and other proprietary formats. Ubuntu is like Windows in convenience - single click to install the driver/package. And as I said in (1) above, not everyone is a tweak master.

hmm, every other distribution I mentioned has that feature. RHEL flavors use yum, gentoo uses a really awesome package manager. what I really dont like is the way ubuntu deviates from the things linux people generally use. I mean the service architecture, the networking things, the init process etc... And actaully for people who dont want to tweak things, enterprise releases like centos are perfect.

You know most the people that use PCs don't care about the underlying stuff (bold) - what they want is ease of use.
I am not clear on why Ubuntu has chosen to take a different approach from the other distros- but it works for most of the people most of the time.

I will give something more visible as an example. The Unity desktop. In spite of what techies and reviewer might say (or might have said during the initial releases) - my wife finds unity more convenient and usable compared to Gnome 3.
