window7 not starting up properly.

I was watching a movie on my computer and then i opened my browser to open sum site, but then after 2-3 minutes my computer became laggy and then un respo.sive. i then pushed the reset button on my cpu but after that my computer wouldnt startup properly, its so slow and unresponsive when i get past the welcome screen, i'm on win7. And hdd activity led is blinking continuously.
I can boot into windows easily in safe mode. No such problem here.
I tried scheduling diskcheck at startup but ghat also didnt help. Any help will be appreciated.

virus infection? boot into safe mode and run a virus scan if you have antivirus installed.

Was the movie you were watching on a cd/dvd? If so, eject it.

Open task manager and see which process are taking the most cpu time.

Check and see if all your hdd's are running in DMA mode.
