Laptops windowed problem

i hve R 51 series IBM laptop.
problem is that every aplication runs in full screen if the resolution is 1024*768
otherwise it runs in small window.Applications like counter strike,Turbo C.i hve reinstalled all the applications several times including window xp but the problem is still there. Although at first when i bought laptop there was no problem.

Could you post a screen shot of the problem u r facing? its mostly a problem with the refresh rates.
