Windows 11 is getting full screen OCR, video editing tools via Snipping Tool

Microsoft is testing support for full screen OCR on Windows 11 via Snipping Tool. This will allow you extract text from images or the screen. In addition, you’ll be able to trim videos.

There’s rarely another app that packs so many useful features as Snipping Tool. We are saying this from the focused attention that Microsoft has given to the app in the last few years. With OCR capabilities, video and audio capture support, and a few editing controls, it is more than what you expect from a native app.

Windows 11’s Start menu feature lets you send files to Android phone

Windows 11’s Start menu has a new feature called “Send files”, which allows you to drag and drop files to your Android phone.

Last year, we reported about a new Start menu feature called “Companions,” which was simply a live floating panel next to the Start menu. These Companion panels were supposed to show dynamic information that allowed interaction, just like widgets.

While Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed that it’s working on “Companions” for the Start menu, the company announced a new Phone Link panel, which appears to be built around this concept. With the Phone Link panel, you can view recent messages, calls and apps directly on the Start menu.
In addition, you’ll find the new “Send files” at the bottom of the Phone companion panel in the Start menu. This lets you quickly transfer files to your Android phone.

Microsoft 365 app gets Copilot tab with Prompt Gallery for Windows 11 (personal accounts only)

Microsoft has finally turned on the “Copilot” section within Microsoft 365 Copilot (formerly Office 365) for personal accounts. This means you can now access Microsoft’s curated prompt gallery on Windows 11. By default, Copilot within Microsoft 365 supports 128,000 characters per prompt.

For those unaware and still confused, Microsoft 365 Copilot is different from the existing “Copilot” app, which is a dedicated app for Windows 11. On the other hand, Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI-powered built around Office content, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Designer, OneDrive and more.

Microsoft 365 Copilot was originally called “Microsoft 365 Office”, but it was rebranded in January to reflect Microsoft’s commitment to AI.

The “Copilot” tab is not exactly new and has been available since Microsoft renamed Office 365 as “Microsoft 365 Copilot,” but it was not possible to interact with the AI if you were signed in with a personal account.

the Microsoft 365 app showed a “coming soon” alert when you tried the Copilot tab in the app. It specifically mentioned that “Copilot Chat is coming soon for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers” and had a link to the learn more page (a support doc on Copilot).

Now, as first spotted by Windows Latest, the Copilot tab is available for Microsoft 365 personal and family subscribers. This change is rolling out via server update.
While you can use the existing Copilot app to try AI features, the “Copilot” tab within the Microsoft 365 Copilot app does a better job when it comes to productivity.
