Windows Windows 10 crashed and won't start up.

Was formatting an external hdd which had bad sectors in windows. Around 85% done, windows froze and nothing worked.

So I pressed reset button. Then windows would boot to a black screen and nothing would respond. Even monitor would go blank.

Tried troubleshooting during startup and windows did some checks and repairs and then said it cannot do anything. Only option it gave me was Shutdown PC or Advanced settings which was what I did before.

Now it just goes to the Windows loading screen and stops.

What do I do now?


Edit: As a last resort, I hit the reset PC button. If this doesn't work, bye bye W10.

OS is dead. Even after reset, it comes and stops at the same place. I tried to mount the windows 10 volume in Mint but its telling me that its not shut down properly and to mount as read only. I can't even boot into windows 10, how can i shut it down properly?

Would have nuked the whole volume but have some files in documents folder I need to shift. What a troublesome OS this is.
 
after 5-6 reboots it started clean. old os got nuked somewhere in between. btw seems its 1 day in future now. all install dates are in future. so weird when system time shows 05-04-2017.

On a more serious note, they have screwed it up seriously. I have gone through 3 updates in a week now.
 
Advanced yes. During the reset, it asked me whether to keep or remove all data from the previous installation.

I had taken all my backup to the second drive.
W10 also had some files on this I think. So it asks me whether to delete all files from both HDD's forever. :'

I ran off from that menu as fast as possible. If nuking one drive wasn't enough for it, it wanted to nuke all the drives in the system now.
 
I try my best to like Windows 10. The parts were they kept things same seem to be fine but with every update they keep testing the limit they can piss off people.

One small example, normally used to put a list of videos on queue by right clicking and add to list in the explorer. Now in the creators update cant seem to find that :/. I can understand if you want to make people use your stupid store apps but atleast dont remove features people like.

[Edit] My bad it used to be for VLC media player. Got it back when i rolled back the update. Wondering is it worth going for the creators update at all
