Windows 7 @59Hz problem

Hi everyone

I am using windows 7 32bit. Refresh rate of monitor does not go beyond 59Hz, if I select it as 60Hz it revert back to 59Hz. I believe this problem is known for long, I searched many forums but could not find any solution so thought Techenclave masterminds :) might be having any solution for it. Problem created by it is- When I try to run any game at lower resolution monitor shows its not recommended mode and gets off. It used not to happen in Vista.

Hardware I am using-
ATI 4770
Samsung 2233SW.

Setting I have already tried-
1.Using latest drivers from ATI.
2.Monitor driver is also installed.
3. ATI CCC shows display setting is on 60Hz but actually they are not.

So if there is any solution for it please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

^^ in windows display setting.
Once I tried with 8500GT there was no problem. It was running at 60hz only. To me problem seems with ATI software as it was fine with nvidea.

I've got the same issue. Windows7 shows 59hz, but if I check the settings from the monitor, it shows 60hz. I've got an nvidia card.
I tried updating the drivers, adding monitor drivers, no help at all.
But since everything is working fine, I just decided to stop thinking about it. I suggest you do the same. Lifes too short to worry about all the issues you're going to have with microsofts software.

@OP:

This link has an embedded link to DirectRefresh try that. It should lock your display to 60Hz.

Then this link has manual options for ForceWare and CCC. Try the CCC one.

Was really surprised to see so many users facing the issue.

check device manager if ur monitor is properly identified ; not a generic pnp monitor

if generic then u may need to download software from samsung for ur model to update..

I have dell 2209wa and at first i had the same issue but later 'win update' downloaded the dell driver and i was able to select 60Hz

^^ Yes device manager is recognizing device as 2233SW digital. Nothing worked beside DirectRefresh software. Thanks for this Asingh. Though at restart setting gets back to 59Hz as that time software is not runnning. So I need to run the software everytime on every startup or I will add it at program start up list.

This software can be downloaded from here-

Thanks for everyone solving the problem though its not permanent solution but still its a solution. :hap2:
