Hey guys,
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit build 7232, using the latest 9.9 drivers from ATI.

BSODs started 2 days back when I was on the 9.8 drivers, happened once while youtube and once gaming.

After 9.9 was out I updated. Yesterday I bought a new HD 4850 so installed it. Now I'm getting BSODs while gaming, especially on GTA 4. On the other hand Crysis seems to run fine.

Video card doesn't seem to be the culprit here as BSODs started 2 days before i inserted the card. Also it happened in 9.8 and 9.9 drivers. I googled it and found that many people using ATI cards are having this issue with 64 bit Vista and Win 7. I was wondering anyone here having the same issue?

I think I'll have to revert to 32 bit Windows 7 and see if this happens there too.

PS : The most frequent error while BSODs happen is dxgmms1.sys, a couple of times 'Page fault in non paged area', and once 'PFN_List_Corrupt'

Are u uninstalling the old drivers completely before installing a new set.
Looks to me like a driver issue.

Just try removing all ATI drivers using a driver remover and then install 9.8 and see. :cool2:

same happens to me , when not uninstalling ATI drivers properly it does a BSOD , Uninstall manually before installing new driver

Yes I did uninstall the old drivers, booted into safe mode and ran driver sweeper, but even then after reboot it used to install the old drivers automatically, then I installed the new drivers.

How do I stop Windows from installing the old drivers automatically?

I'm planning to do a full format and a complete reinstall of the OS. Hopefully this will fix the problem.

If u have run driver sweeper properly in Safe mode, it will delete all entries related to ATI and then ask for reboot.

If u get this and reboot, there won't a trace of driver left for Windows to install.

If Windows is able to install drivers, that means u have not removed the drivers properly. :cool2:

So, try it again, wait for the prompt for reboot and then reboot, and install drivers again and then see. :hap2:

Ya that's what I was thinking how come Windows is finding the drivers to install after running Driver Sweeper. I'll try it again properly and see what happens. Anyway I'm fresh installing a newer build of the OS by tomorrow.

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit RTM and it seems to be working fine now, no BSOD :hap2:

So it seems that the drivers were not properly uninstalled before installing new ones, and this caused the problem. :P
