I am confused if to install windows 7 x86 or 64 bit one? I have 2gb of memory and that too shared with onboard ati graphics card. Should i go for x86 or 64 bit will give me any improvement ?

You can go for either of the flavors... I'd say go for 64-bit, If you plan to upgrade your ram to 4gb or above in future, you won't have to re-install windows to 64-bit to use all 4GB.

For me its 64 Bit, Earlier I was running my comp on 2 GB [windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit] it ran smoothly but now I upgraded to 5 GB Corsair XMS2 [2*2*1] Now Its a fu*king Super fast Comp.

Unless you have 4Gb plans for future go for X86,

You asked whether you should install, I hope that does not mean which one to buy right?

because in that case you better buy 64 bit but otherwise, go with 32 bit and be smooth.

Installation disc got both versions

In that case the answer is simple, with Ram <= 4GB you'll not notice any performance difference between the two versions, additionally you'll be using 32 bit apps only as not all applications are available for 64 bit yet. Including adobe, firefox.

I have a dual boot of 32 bit and 64 bit, you may want to try this as well and decide.

^TBH I'm yet to see a *big* difference between 2GB and 4GB on x64. My 2 x 2GB G.SKill sticks have gone for replacement and I'm on a single stick of Transcend 2GB RAM. Although the downside is the system is running at its stock speed since I haven't tried overclocking as yet, there isn't a very noteable difference here except that games while loading takes a couple of seconds more and that's about it. Perhaps other applications might take a hit - I haven't come across those.

^^ Second that sire! Running since past 6 months without a hitch. Mostly using 64 bit stuff for development so sticking to x64 and 2Gig seems fine here.

ONLY if you plan to move to 4GB or more later on, if you don't, installing 64 bit is absolutely useless. Plus looking for 64bit drivers is going to be a PITA.

Drivers are no issue for 64BIT. Unless the application is really legacy.

Hm, things seem to have changed since Vista days :P But it doesn't make sense to install 64bit on 2GB RAM, it will NOT be able to utilize the 64bit architecture.

^ The amount of usable RAM is dependent on the architecture, the architecture isn't dependent on the amount of RAM.

Btw, how would Win7 perform on a PII 400MHz. system with 384MB RAM? It runs WinXP perfectly, not blazing fast but at above average speeds.
