Looks like the rumors of a December 19 release of the Windows 7 Beta 1 may, in fact, be accurate. Microsoft has added the following info to their public Windows 7 Web sitetoday:

Update - According to Neufuse in the comments this was a publishing error on the CMS from Microsoft. Microsoft have now removed the link. Expect access to the beta after Steve Ballmer's keynote on Wednesday 7th January 2009, unless it leaks beforehand of course.

You could put article text in quote tags instead of just italics (hard to notice)... otherwise it looks like Tom Warren of Neowin IM'd YOU from his iPhone :D
 
Was looking forward to trying Windows 7. :(
Anyway would rather wait for Windows 7, but I just hope when it releases the price is reasonable and not like the Vista prices.
