NEW DELHI: Computer users in India will soon be able to buy Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 7 to replace their old operating systems, as
the government has removed the anomalies in taxation of packaged software sold through physical media.

The Windows 7 consignment to India was held up at the Customs because of a tax dispute leading to a possible double taxation, leaving many customers disappointed who were hoping to upgrade from Windows XP and the more recent Vista.

Any idea about Indian rates?

I'm still pissed at the fact that there is no multi-license (3-pack or 5-pack) version for professional/ultimate in retail. There is 3-pack OEM and 3-pack upgrade version, but no retail.
 
It's still not on shelves.

Even though Croma has been sporting Win 7 boxes on display... their sales guys are utterly ignorant.

One guy at phoenix mills outlet even said "mid January" is the expected date for stocks... and he did it with absolute CONFIDENCE! throwing in a wide smile..

lol i just couldnt stop laughing and told him straight he had no idea what he was talking about

dude.. relax... if the reports are correct and the stocks have just been cleared (not sure knowing how all the authorities in this country work).. i'd say your best guess is next week.
 
update: windows 7 available (all versions) online from buyoriginalms.com

vat + at checkout. shipping -> 2-3 weeks :(

edit: vat is Rs 438/- extra, Octroi - 0 for mumbai.
 
i got a mail from them too...

but i'l check if its available at Croma.. 2-3 weeks is too long to wait for shipping from Delhi.

on the plus side, the price is lower than what was initially reported
 
Check and do tell us. Also, can someone check from Nehru Place if OEM is available? I heard retail is available there?
 
checked with CROMA yesterday... they dont have it.. and have no idea when they're getting their stocks :@
 
Yeah... been to Croma yesterday, all they have is stupid fake boxes of Win7 and zero information on date or price.
 
Its available in here for buying..but the delivery says 2-3weeks...not sure if its a standard period. Earlier it used to say preorder, but now its mentioned as 'Buy Now'.

the shipping is really iffy at 2-3 weeks just from DELHI to MUMBAI!

besides, im not comfortable ordering from that site where there's absolutely NO CONTACT or full address mentioned of the retailers.. just enterprise names!

I dont know if anyone here has bought from that site
 
^ i bought from that site. waiting for my box to arrive. Already got an sms and tracking number from them conforming the order and shipment of my box :D

btw.. how long did they take to process it and which of the 2 vendors did you buy from? also which courier are they using?

They've got a rather funny 3month warranty specified ! lol
 
^ i bought it from aditi. dunno which courier. i asked them which courier and i only got a thanks for buying from their site email in response. :S

bought it on 16th. btw, after entering the tracking number, i saw just now and it says it has not yet been shipped. so might have to wait. :S

will update here asa i get the box in my hands. :)

I seriously dont get whats with all these guys... Apple and MS..

Apple with its 3GS and MS with Windows 7
